cost of scrotes so far £113

New Lock for the garage door - £8

250 mile round trip from Buckingham to Whitstable and back to pick up gift engine from the lovely Frank

- so that is £40 worth of petrol plus some wear and tear on the car  - call it £50 in total

Thames Dartford crossing - £5 paid online (bridges should be for the common good - building bridges to cross rivers is the very least a governement should do for its people. Scottish Bridges are free)

A day of my time down the tubes - call it £50

its the hassle that these wee bawbags cause that’s the real headache – good you got one replaced though :)

Re. Dartford crossing, I read somewhere that the cost of building the bridge had been recovered more than ten years ago and that it is now operated by a French company. I am sure they are doing it from the goodness of their hearts.

I used to live in Bicester. To get to Whitstable I would have taken the M40 and M25 south of the smoke, but that was a few years ago. Maybe things have changed.

probably not so little – the Tohatsu is a hard carry even for a big bloke.

It turns out that another house in the village was done on the same night – bastids nicked some tools from a van

Its quite incredible that burglary, and it is burglary because a shed or garage is a building of some permanence. Is considered a low priority offence in the UK. If the thieves were caught after being given a helping hand paid for by the tax payer they would get something akin to a slap on the wrist and a quid out of the poor box. Yet they cause decent folks anxiety and expense. Yet if you transcend to drive a few miles over the speed limit you are hung out to dry. I gave up with expecting a sense of justice in the UK years ago and I am a retired copper

the awful thing is that the scrotes might get £50 for the Honda and maybe £100 for the Tohatsu

fekkers have been doing sheds all around the area

they stole the tools from the back of the van belonging to a local farrier the same night

shit bags – nicking the tools of trade from a working man

‘You lucky lucky Bastard…’ Only £112 Finally got out to my boat on the River Wyre. Usually it dries out at low tide. Not for the last month or so! Got within 10′ with thigh length waders on a few occasions but was beaten back by the shearer force of water Bowland hills. Now, I thought she looked a bit low in the water? When finally got out at the weekend in a dinghy, it was flooded with rain water 2′ short of the cushions! Unfortunately I found my FM Radio £15, Garmin GPS £115, 50x7s binoculars £115, Nautech Autohelm (£100> est. to fix) underwater and ruined. And looking up the mast I noticed my VHF arial/wind-vane (£115) stolen by the strotey winter gales. Still, the roller genoa well trussed up with my old main sheet was intact. ‘They must think the sun shines out of your …’

Commiserations S. I am always frightened when I shove the hatch back that I will find the boat awash with water.

It has been a very weird winter for weather.

as my old dad used to say – count your blessings. That is something I try to do

I found out last year on a visit to UK that the Dartford Bridge was pay online only and with only one sign to tell you to pay if you don’t have a transponder!, NO toll booths!, not even 1. Bloody pain in the ask” since my cell phone does not work in UK except on wifi. Quite the ‘riga ma roll’ for a non UK based to pay…..
Mind you a few years earlier when they still had toll booths I drove straight from the airport up to one of the 15+ toll booths to pay the $5….. whipped out a fiver… ‘sorry mate that’s out of date!… no problem… whipped out a tenner…sorry mate that’s out of date…..Hmmm…no problem whipped out a 20 quid note all notes from my saved english money stash……Eh sorry mate that’s out of date too…..What?….. credit card?….no good…..well all I’ve got is US Dollars (the most counterfeit money in the world)……YES no problem we take dollars!
    How crazy is that!

Yes, nowadays government depts. and quangos are run solely for their own benefit. The personal and financial costs that the “customer” has to bear never come into the equation.
Something I go on about a lot is the sheer quantity of rules and regulations that small businesses and organizations like the scouts etc. have to comply with that don’t apply to the bureaucrats who create them or to the really big businesses.
Sorry if this is going off subject…..

And to you too D. There’s a 9.2 metre tide tomorrow at 10.30am. With a bit of luck she’ll be tucked up in my driveway by early afternoon. The regular club MOBs told me she dried out on the mud last week for the first time in a few months!

Dave it’s interesting you say that, from my return visits to uk I noticed that somewhat. (registrations for boats!!!) In the US while we have regulations it is very easy to fly under the radar. ( too easy ). one ways they get around the regulations here is congress or the states that the regulations are imposed on don’t provide or seriously limit the funding so there is no implementation of the regs!
They did this spectacularly 30 years ago with the conversion to metric. There was no funding so all the gas stations , grocery stores and material suppliers like plywood , paint etc all reverted back to feet and inches and lbs and oz! Except car companies and the military!
So I get to work in the lovely ‘ natural ‘ measurements systems of old England and not ugly mm and kg most of the time.
A real pain for engineers and designers to do calculations but they tend to use metric and convert back.
For Boats ( to make it relevant) I get confused looking at specs for uk boats even old ones that now only show metric specs…..
Prehaps if UK does leave the EU it can convert back……..aargh! ( joke)

Warren, only just seen your reply…It is still possible for the individual to fly under the radar here in Europe but it does depend upon the activity concerned. The sharing of data between bureaucratic orgs. is always a threat although funnily enough the data protection act hinders this – but one day there will be no more cash, all transactions will be via digital networking and government depts. will be giant databases monitored by search programs – HEY! just like Google!

Must be the season for scrotes. Woke up this morning to discover all 8 tyres on my two work vans slashed. Still you know you’re doing something right when the opposition come in the dead of night to attempt to scupper your business. Neighbours Landrover Discovery was parked next to my vans but they ignored that. Could do without the £900 bill

sailing has always been an escape – it is where most of us go to regain our sanity.

If the virtual experience of a video can create a part of that same feeling of immersion in an unimportant yet pleasant journey in a small yacht then that is a marvelous thing I think

B, I can send you some dvds – but they now look pretty ropey on a big tv compared to the glory that is HD. Far better to stream them from the web to your chromecast or similar. You can also download them from each film by clicking on the download link. Then feel free to hit…. or ignore…. the paypal button. But if you want the dvds then email me with your address and I will bung them in the post. Don’t pay until they get to you. [email protected]

Hi Dylan. Thoroughly enjoying your films. Getting ready to do a round Britain with a mate, these are helping and make me even more sure I was correct to get a bilge keeled Westerly. Just watching off the internet, it means I don’t upset my wife’s TV schedules.
