I have a small 2hp Seagull that I used behind my 15 foot trailer sailer - then I spent a winter on the Norfolk Broads and was so applalled at what it was throwing in the water that I bought a new Honda 2.3hp.  I sold the Hinda with the boat. Al loaned me this old Seagull and having run it I have decided that, although they are amazing bits of engineering, using them in environmentally sensitive places such as the Was is unethical.

Meanwhile.... late news... I cam across this brilliant publication called the Gull

its for seagull enthusiasts

Must have been so unethical that you decided the Seagull video was unfit for our consumption, I have received two copies of your toolkit blog and none of the unethical Seagull. Hard to imagine a seagull being unethical, a crow maybe, but surely not a seagull.

Can’t imagine what you were going to do to the poor bird. Luckily this is a copy of Vlog 138 so the toolkit gets extra bandwidth.

For those who want to hold on to their 2-stroke OBs, navigate over to the duckworks.com web site and peruse Rob Rhode-Szudy’s article on mods to reduce oil emission. There’s also one on ethanol and some info about using biodegradable oils such as those produced by Amsoil. Pricey but perhaps soothing to the conscience.

If your motor gets wet buy a lifting outboard bracket like mine… I lift the thing out then tilt the motor – no drag.

And with regard to the ‘Voice of the Beast’ episode; why not curl your very expensive bit of exhaust pipe into a complete circle, then jubilee it in place. You might get a bit more back pressure, but you might get a peaceful burble instead of that infuriating ‘crack – crack’. I doubt very much it would effect the Beast adversely.

One more thought (but please don’t take it seriously – I am rather dim at these things): Couldn’t you fit some sort of flat flange thing on the exhaust outlet on the transom as a water diverter? You know the kind of thing, we used to see loads of them fitted to the back of Ford Zephyrs and other trendy limmos of the sixties – really cool man…

Good decision on the Seagull Dylan. I commend you. Many would just not care.

The Honda you speak of is a wonderful motor for sure!
