I have just spent four days on the boat and I think I am coming to terms with Scottish sailing. Hide when it rains, sail when it doesn't. I am also doing a fair amount of sailing using the spray hood and umbrella as cover during the latest downpour. The skies though are well worth the pain.
The wednesday was am utterly foul day
but by the evening it had eased up so I could go for a grey evening sail. On thursday I went for a day sail to Loch Kishorn which is due North of Plockton.
The Friday and saturday were just showery with the odd 25 mph gust so I had two splendidly robust sailing days around the Island or Raasay.
Where you find a Drascombe you will always find good sailing
I am always interested to see the way that the design of inshore fishing boats change from area to area
Just outside plockton there is a little channel that is begging to explored in Sweet Pea
sunshine with rain on the lens
local wildlife levels seem to be well down this year - loads of cormorants though
fish farm worked heading home at the end of the day
Sweet Pea planing behind us
smaller engine - less fat man - big dog for the bow required
squall after squall interspersed with glorious skies and sunshine
bubbles
Plockton Harbour light house
Some boisterous sailing
The crust on the FB p[ie raised - then fell. I need a grill
sticks once used for drying nets
the view from the cockpit
graveyard at Plockton
Plockton at high tide
Sula Mhor - lovely wooden boat
Lots of dead salmon farms littering the lochs
Patriotism can be a marvelous thing
Westerly Nimrod - brilliant little boats
Old scottish built motorsailor
Portree between showers
French boat leaving Skye
interesting stern on this little mobo
A westerly 33 - very tough old ketch
Lovely images. Thank you.
Thanks for those D.
Thanks for this Dylan
Was that your red jib being unfurled around 5 on Wednesday? If so you certainly grabbed the moment.
it’s good to see the boats in Plockton in close up – I usually see them from the train on my daily commute to Kyle. Ossian is well known to me – great go anywhere boat.
it’s not been much of a late season for you but v I mpressed that you’ve made the most of it given the nature of your commute!
Sure is a great journey and I even get paid for doing it!
Best of luck with Kip – have you tried Croabhaven for a price? sheltered waters for late /early season but a longer drive
Great pictures D! looking forward to seeing your videos from that area. Always a great moment to find a new video on your site.
Great Pics D… glad to see your not letting the weather hold you in port!
Some of those would make quality desktop images. In fact, one or two of them just might make it on to mine… copyright permitting, of course! What’s the licence?

Please, please stop telling people Westerly Nimrods are good as I am trying to buy either a Nimrod or Shipmate Senior. Your waxing lyrical about the Hunter Minstrel has already pushed them out of reach for us retired chaps ?
Steve
Nice
A Fisher 25, defiantly the sort of think you want. Almost no bilge keel versions as far as I know. Colvic made something similar and lower priced.
I like the older LM boats too but pricey.

I took the plunge and went for a Shipmate Senior. Travelled 170 miles to look at a Nimrod first the owner had omitted to say the bottom of the mast had been broken off and replaced by shoving a piece of wood in its place! The Western Isles are magnificent – enjoy.
