Glenn’s UK Circumnavigation in a Centaur – he says “small chip”

Hi Dylan

You are very welcome for the small chip in, I noticed your comment about liking pictures of boats in your inbox, so here is ours.

We recently bought her to replace a Vivacity 650, after thinking and planning our trip around the UK coast we decided we would be much happier and more comfortable on a Centaur, mainly down to watching your experiences, thanks for that mate.

She is in Lowestoft at present, we did so e work last weekend, at 1 degree it was painful so we cut out a bit early and hotfooted back to Hull. We shall be sailing her up to Hull next month to prep for the big voyage in late May and the favourable winds (we hope). Plan to overnight in Wells next to the Sea, which I revisited your experiences of recently!

Good luck with your latest campaign, hope to see you out there with a good heater soon mate.

Kindest regards

Glenn

Harmony is in lowestoft at the moment

ashore - I sold her to a bloke called Jon who came up the north sea with me

I cannot bare to go see her

hard dodger eh!

send more snaps

and

what engine do you have in the boat?

how many people doing the trip - how much time do you have

will you take a dinghy

sorry about the questions - I am now living vicariously  through the sailing lives of the MOBs

D

Oh! Wish I had picked up on that Dylan, would have paid homage to the girl!
Yes the hard dodger we think will be a plus in squalls, though for two mature Gents it does make for an odd limbo dance getting in and out!
The engine is a non original Volvo Penta, last weekend was fun, starting her after standing at least a month in bloody cold conditions, but when she did fire, what a beauty, smooth as a Singer hehe.
It is actually my friend Brian who has bought her, we are two ex army musicians, I am 58 and Brian 70 so this will be a leisurely trip, we have 'allowed' 3 months, thought it would be nice to take our time and actually enjoy the coast, thats the idea anyhow.
We may get a couple of visitors from time to time, but in my experience people say they will come and appear willing, but best not to rely on it happening really.
Looking forward to it!
In the snaps she is named Copalu, this will change to Rise-Lillian very soon, we are not superstitious as you can see.
Hope you enjoy the snaps mate.
Regards

he sold the small one to buy a centaur after he had been watching my films

that was just a snap of him and his mate – they are musicians – just imagine what a great noise will be coming from the cosy centaur cabin

Good on you guys! I hope you find a way to post at least some photos on a site somewhere . There are plenty of friends here that would enjoy following your progress. You might even find a few new friends around the coast.
Did you see the film Dylan did on a guy he meet in Wisbech I think who was on a much smaller boat who was planning to sail to the south of France and make money grape picking…… I wonder if he made it? He was you age and from your part of the world.
Sorry I just watched the film but can’t find it among the 537 films Dylan has posted!
    Cheers Warren

    Hi Glenn,
Don’t be stopping overnight at ‘Paddys Hole’ in Teesmouth on the leg after Whitby, go up river to moor t’other side of the Tees Barrage or quite simply moor at Hartlepool Marina
