Back to Radio days – how was it for you?

It is always interesting putting up a film - first of all you are worried that the occasional duff frame or dissolve has got through.

When you try to turn it into some sort of cohesive narrative you never know if the ideas will join up the same way in 100 heads as they did in the only one I have ever owned.

This time, as a hack, I failed in that I put the camera away. The waterproof would not do anything other than show the odd nav light - it needs a lot of light to work. It was too wet to risk the good camera.... and, I really did not feel much like filming.

So I went back to the radio way of doing things - which is voice and sound effects.

Did it work?.

For some of you it seems to have held your attention - it would be interesting to know if you skipped on through it

I think some people were a bit taken aback. On the other hand I think quite a few of you thought that it worked okay. If that did work then it might be worth listening to the old radio programmes about riding the horses down offas dyke and the across America.

That aside I have always said that to be sustainable I needed to get to the point where 95 per cent of people who watch each film right to the end to not tap in.

This last films has done 1200 views in the first five days - about 200 on vimeo for four days and then around 1000 on youtube since it went up last night along with the reminder

This last film KTL 8:16 had had 64 taps - of course you early viewers are more likely to chip in. By the time curve starts to flatten out at about 6,000 views the ratio will be much, much lower than that.

However, if the last ten films go down as well as the past three then I come October/November I shall be looking out for something with a good engine but in end of season condition. Shorter and even tougher than a Centaur.

Hi – I think it worked pretty well, the lack of pictures added to the drama – I admit I was one of those a bit taken aback when you cracked on SW past Orkney and I told the TV so, but of course I’m on the sofa not in the cockpit – Glad you have recovered your good humour – Good luck with the taps

Great film, had to download from vimeo and view on lowest resolution due to our slow interent here. Do you really want to sail one of these? It’s a bit of a paradigm shift for KTL. I’m sure many of us want to see you continuing to turn left in a small boat

25 foot long – shorter than the centaur and draws even less. I aim to keep it for a three or four years and then go back to the minstrel for the solway firth and the welsh rivers.

I will tow the tender though and use that for deep penetration

of course, none of this may happen. In which case it is the clinker beauty
