Slug News

When I was cleaning out the shed in preparation for our move I came across the cockpit tent that came with the slug so I sent it onto Richard.

It is a canvas edifice of considerable antiquity

here it is in place

Something like that would be handy on my boat. When you have a small vessel, the extra space and headroom would be welcome. I’ve been using a tarp for the damp days, but a cockpit tent would be much nicer for extended stays aboard.

    not canvas though

I find the simple boom-over tarp is perfectly good. The see through monotex helps to cut down the feeling of claustrophobia you get with a blue or a green one.

the big advantage of a cockpit shelter is that you can shift stuff outside to give room to move inside without it all getting wet.

Very ‘Norfolk Broads’ style and invaluable in a small boat. I bet Richard was delighted.

    Hi D

Please tell me you’re documenting the shed move.

Like a hermit crab changing shells this is a very delicate operation, rarely caught on film.

You could be providing comfort and inspiration for generations to come – proper public service broadcasting.

    Good luck, be brave.

it is a very traumatic process

a man sitting in the corner of shed weeping does not make a good film

Having severely down-sized more than a few times myself, I feel your pain.

There’s that Darwinian “…but, but, I might need that some day” warring with “burn the furniture and the books, there’s no room in the lifeboats and we’re taking on water…” And I shamefully confess that once felt so overwhelmed that I just threw-my hands and walked away leaving everything-stored there as the landlord’s problem.
