KeepTurningLeft Season 8 pt 2 – Rattray Head

Peterhead is classic overnighter for those heading North. It is not everyone's cup of tea but Jill, myself and the hyperactive mad people had a great time there

Excellent I was getting desperate for part 2
Such a shame you had to part with the boat but life’s like that and a gentleman’s agreement must be honoured especially in this age.
Hope the weather improves again before the end of the season. Is there much opportunity for winter sailing in Scotland, I know you like “out of season sailing” and I suspect would miss it.

    Cheers D,

she was/is a very good boat. I think for winter sailing in scotland – 500 miles from home – I probably need a bigger cabin so the search for a Harmony replacement will continue. Meanwhile I am saving the paypal taps for the next project. I should really sell Katie L to fund the bigger boat but I get such great shots from her and she allows me to get into places I just can’t reach with a bigger boat. I aim to end my sailing days – aged 85 plus – beebling around the Blackwater in Katie L. If I sell her I will never get a boat as perfect for the Essex rivers.

    Hi Dylan,
Another brill video. I’ve just paid you some more. It appears that I’ve just bought twenty halyards, but if I have, you can keep them! ;-)

At last, I was beginning to wonder when the next installment was coming out. Still sailing must take priority.

By the way, I wasn’t able to download the file via the vimeo button route as I normally do
but the ‘download for freemans’ worked fine.

Can’t wait for the Orkney and Shetland bits.

    Keep up the good work.

the weather has been pants in Scotland so I had time to edit at home. Generally the idea is to make and post the films in the winter when more people get to see them but I thought I might keep the pot boiling a bit

    +1 on the MOB drill…

the hat blew off swmbo head

you could see the look of resignation on my face

    never done an MOB drill

I do tell anyone on board that if anyone goes over the side to chuck anything that floats in the general direction of the oversidee

    fenders, bench cushions, pillows

    Yay!! More Harmony videos. . . .

Definitely keep the KatieL. The more I’ve looked at shallow-draft boat-options here in the States, the more I’m convinced you have a true Pearl of Great Price in her. Shallow-draft and an easy sailer, Gunter for the estuaries and the River-rig for dropping the mast in the canals and the Broads.

Good hat overboard drill, nicely done, and to prove it wasn’t a fluke you did it twice.
I have a very Scottish mate I intend showing your film to when he’s had a few – usually a destructive mixture of cider and whisky – for educational purposes, as I want to learn some new swearwords and I think this’ll help.

  11. 29 July, 2015 at 6:56 pmdylan winter says:

Just make sure you show him the hamble scramble first

or swearing at mobos – just for a bit of balance

I have a few more perspectives on what it is like sharing a border with the jocks

Excellent. Jealous of that cake by the way.

fruit cake – is utterly perfect aboard a boat

cake and whisky at 4.00 in the afternoon raises everyone’s spirits

Why did you go for Fraserburgh? The guides make it sound pretty inhospitable for yachts….

  18. 30 July, 2015 at 1:44 pmApplescruffs says:

Thanks a lot Dylan…now I’ve got the bloody “Skye boat song” banging around in my head….didn’t sleep last night because of it !

And for Gawd’s sake please don’t go anywhere near the Mull of Kintyre !

    ;0)

Still sending you a fiver though…..to buy Jill a new hat!

    All the best

    Dylan
I Watched a 2nd time after the ‘ controversy’ it created.
laughed even more this time, can’t wait to see what my wife thinks when I show her.
    Ignoring the Jacobite stuff…..
The very small red fishing boat, with the 12″ h splash board added to the cotpit….. Do you think he needs a bigger boat? I guess we know why he painted it red.
The small green wood boat,’ Strumvogel,’. …was that supposed to be a a joke on the amazing ‘Stormvogel’ yacht?

And your admission that recovering the hat was your First ever MOB drill….. I hope not.
Please if you have your amazing family on board again please remember one golden rule……..immediately assign one person to do nothing but watch and point at the ‘MOB’ and do nothing else, tks.

Cheers, fingers crossed for back to last years weather soon.
    Warren

Finally managed to watch for the first time and putting aside the Jacobite stuff my overwhelming impression was you are a lucky man. Doing what you love with those you love for company must come as close as I can think of to nirvana.

Loved the film Dylan, and interesting history lesson there, but as a thought have you seen how many versions of land of hope and glory there are smacked to bits by various persons?

  25. 25 August, 2015 at 12:11 pmHazel Morris says:

Thank you for your reply. I loaded this page “Season 1 part 29 Beaumont Quay, Stour and Harwich” but when I click to download it, I get “Season 1 part 32”. Where is part 29 then ?

Thanks for the history lesson that was well enjoyed by this yank – proud now to know the connection between the Jacobite rebellion and the Beverley Sisters … I’m totally loving your series.
