Your wife was right about the diagonal cut to the fish.
I was told by a fisherman years ago that one cuts diagonally, but not all the way through, then bend head downwards and voila, most of the guts come out too.
PS what was the yellow wand thing (prior to gutting the fish by quite a way) lying on chart next to binoculars?
Another type of torch thingy?
Feedback, not criticism ……
On my iPad the sound went from almost inaudible to TOO LOUD, was hard to watch. So just one click on PP :-)
Nice vid though :-)
Regards, Steve L.
Yes, the sound was a bit up and down. At around 12.35 the music comes in a lot louder than the preceding section and much of the original commentary, recorded at the time, was too quiet.
Having said that though, it’s yet another great video Dylan. Many thanks.
I envy you the Laphroaig. It is, by far, my favourite whisky.
16:58 to 17:00 on Vimeo timescale
Not your gps. Looks like a wand / light something…
It was interesting and heartening to see that you still have the yellow handheld gps after all these years (first seen in your earliest videos). I too like keeping good kit and looking after it until I can fix it no longer.
Wife and I watched the film on an I-pad and had the same problem with the soundlevels going up and down. We had the I-pad connected to a external speaker by blue-tooth. As usual, fine scenes, but you must teach your son how to gut mackerel! Lucky he just had one to take care of!
No, I was streaming it on my PC. Don’t worry too much Dylan, it wasn’t a big problem, I only mentioned it because someone else noticed it as well.
You have it all dear sir.
Living the dream and having fun too.
It is great to see the whole family enjoying the adventure too. The best sailing series on the web and it’s British too. I love the educational bits about the places you visit too. Gus
I just tried the youtube link but that does not work at all – just saying that the link did not upload, taken away by the user!
OK – I just read yor comment about re-uploading the link!
Fab stuff that a real enjoyable half hour nice work my friend.
The youtube version had some glitches, the vimeo came across quite nice. Another great bit of filming! Perhaps my next paypal tap will be for a sharp knife :)
Great video as always! I too had a problem with the audio, full volume for the bits I could hear and a lot I could not-even with earphones. Usually the volume is fine on your other output.
By the way that’s the first time I’ve heard someone use the word ” mithering ” for around 50 years!!
Great to see the family sharing your adventures too.
Wonderful adventure. No-wonder that your had bad weather this year, you used-up your lifetime quota of fine Scottish weather last year with the Centaur journey to the North. Living in the countryside, I’ve learned a re-appreciation of the value — and great treasure — of bright blue skies and a clear horizon.
Watched on my PC on the Vimeo, and definitely some inconsistency in the audio-volume. Generally the music is consistent, but the narration and background natural sounds were very faint at-times. **sorry**
Another excellent video….. thanks Dylan. As I commented at the time we checked Lybster and Helmsdale harbours on a run back from Orkney (by car) but were a couple of days too early for Harmony, so no cigar, or in your case, no whisky! Vimeo quality was excellent and I barely noticed the audio level changes. We have a local tradesman in our village who boasts that he never gets complaints from customers, only concerns. In the overall video production (which is a delight) the ‘concerns’ about audio level are of small consequence. Relax. P.
Thank you Dylan,
Watched this First thing Sunday morning. Lovely way to enjoy my first couple of cups of tea. Cheers.
I watched on direct Vimeo feed to my TV. Played beautifully in HD. Sound issues, non really , just the usual variation from voice over and on camera recorded audio, not as bad as most TV shows.
Loved the little community with the tiny houses!
We now have a TV show about ‘ Tiny houses’ , portable ,custom built. Didn’t we call them caravans?
The big joke is that many townships don’t allow living in under 400 squ ft dwellings!
Ha! have they ever seen a boat ( read Centaur)?
Amazing little harbours you found , Scotland continues to surprising me in the quality of the cruising grounds…the weather not so much, you certainly need a plan B ready!
Have to do a Paypal tap or 2.
Thanks , there is clearly lots of work putting these together.
A big cut above the usual Utubes

Delightful film and well produced.
I’m envious, Dylan that your old Etrex is still working. Mine gave me 8 years of sterling service and then packed up. I replaced it with the Etrex 10 but it isn’t anything like as good as you can’t program it to display what you want! Not much good. I find the navionics UK and Holland app on my Sony Z3 Compact more useful. The pnones waterproof too but I’m not sure that getting it damp with salt water would be very good for it, but it is great for confirming position and distance off and direction to go whilst passage making. Very reassuring when single handed.
Keep up go work and enjoy the Fal.

Great videos Dylan, Your explorations are something I’d love to have done coming from a long line of deep water mariners – Henry Laws 1800-1880 (Barques to St Kitts & Mauritius) his son Robert Henry Laws 1828-1891 Barques to St Kitts) 2 other sons both masters at sea, then Robert Henry Laws 1875-1946 who sailed dinghies with my father John Robert Laws 1921-2008 at Walton on the Naze then me crewed in ‘Dambuster’ to Alderney Cherbourg & Ormanville and the Solent in the 1970’s & Albacores and Enterprise dinghies in Lincolnshire, now living in by the sea at North Berwick,
I had hoped you’d explore the via North Berwick up the Forth, The Tay, The Moray & Beauly, Cromarty& Dornoch Firths but you can’t go everywhere and you’ve a long long way to go Looking forward to your new horizons, I spent a lot of time round to boatyards as a boy at Leigh on sea as my granny lived there, always fancied either a converted Bawley or a Hillard 8 tonner but I guess they’re too much maintenance these daysfor most folk unless you’ve got buckets of dosh.
Regards to Jill and the youg-uns
Jake wouldn’t have made any money in the days of the ‘silver darlings’ What’s a vegan doing with a fish anyway?
Regards John
I’ve finally caught up with you on your epic voyage. Now eagerly waiting for the the next instalment of these brilliant, hugely entertaining videos.
Just for information, playing this on my Asus T100 Transformer tablet the sound kept going on and off from the beginning and gave up altogether at around 10 mins. It was fine on my bigger Dell laptop. They both run Windows 10, though the Asus (I think) uses tablet settings.

my mate at work has a DJI Phantom (i think) and it has a really cool “follow me” feature – showed me a clip of him driving and the drone keeps up with the car and takes some great footage. Very clever things :)
oops – that was supposed to go in the drone entry!
OK, have tried that, but same problem. Sound returns at intervals, eg your commentary just before the fish gutting episode.
