I’m afraid the the volume is still very low Dylan. I can hardly hear it even with headphones. ( I’m using an iPad .)
Looks like a good film though. Spey 1 is a nice boat-a credit to its owner. Couldn’t hear much of what he said though.
Perhaps I’m just a deaf old git !

it appears to be a problem, on some systems…. can’t track it down

can you try on a desktop

or – can you mono it maybe

I am wondering if it is a phase problem with my camera mike

I wish I could reproduce it here

I will make a version with the actuality monoed and see if that helps

Are you applying for a patent on your new gear lever?

  7. 18 December, 2015 at 11:49 pmdylan winter says:

it is a KTL universal fitting(patent applied for). 50 year old teeth on the spline had been chewed up and were not gripping the 50 year old gear lever

  8. 18 December, 2015 at 11:55 pm[email protected] says:

    Hi D
Sound fine when I turn off ‘surround’ sound on my desktop – otherwise fairly inaudible when from the camera mike – voice over is fine on both settings

  9. 18 December, 2015 at 11:56 pmdylan winter says:

damn I wish I could reproduce it here

    shooting in the dark otherwise

  10. 19 December, 2015 at 12:06 amBert says:

Dylan I have just watched again on desktop, the problem seems to be the audio level from the camera as the voice over audio level and background music level are fine.

  11. 19 December, 2015 at 12:08 amdylan winter says:

do you have standard desktop stereo speakers on your desktop bert?

  12. 19 December, 2015 at 12:11 amBert says:

Is the shaft thick enough to drill a hole through and also through the gear lever to take a roll pin?

  13. 19 December, 2015 at 12:13 amBert says:

    Yes Dylan, standard Labtec speakers.

  14. 19 December, 2015 at 12:14 amdylan winter says:

Now sold the boat and on the second centaur with a new gear lever

  15. 19 December, 2015 at 5:36 amTed B. (Charging Rhino) says:

Hmmmm, watching the Vimeo-feed on a standard desktop tower PC and definitely sound issues. Very uneven, some OK, some rather tinny narration and no background noises, and some no sound at-all even when people obviously talking.

I.E. The bagpipe school(?) total silence….

    Sorry, friend…

  16. 19 December, 2015 at 8:43 amdylan winter says:

    sorry Ted,

I have re-made the film and converted everything from the camera mike to mono

I will let you know when the replacement film is up

takes about three hours to upload here

  17. 19 December, 2015 at 2:58 pmDave says:

no sound issues here. Sounds good on desktop. another great film worthy of a tap! I also like the film of the dancers, the respectful chap sitting on the stage appears worried he might get bumped and drop his sandwich!

  18. 19 December, 2015 at 8:39 pmjack says:

Tip top Dylan……… Tap up you mob’s……

  19. 19 December, 2015 at 8:57 pmAndy Davis says:

Dylan – there’s definitely a phase problem with the camera microphone; you could try inverting one of the L/R channels.

  20. 20 December, 2015 at 1:27 amdylan winter says:

you sound as though you know what you are talking about

all suggestions gratefully accepted and processed

  21. 20 December, 2015 at 11:28 amHenrik Scheel says:

As the rest I hear sound problems on version 1 of the movie. There is a high frequency tone on parts of the movie and there is scratching sounds. Maybe a cable problem on the external mic or the plug not in?

  22. 20 December, 2015 at 11:36 amHenrik Scheel says:

BTW, I got a new a 4K TV. Any chance of 4K version KTL movies comming up?

  23. 20 December, 2015 at 5:17 pmdylan winter says:

    Thanks A

I have £25 speakers on the desk – which I hoped would be pretty typical

I have doubled up the left track so we will see if that does anything to help

the interview with george was out of balance – not sure why…. and later on I had to get a microphone part made up – a conversion from a mini to a micro audio lead to fit in the camera

The old camera was replaced last winter as the poor bligthter was getting tired.

I will have to watch out for the phase problem in the next film

David’s report of it sounding weird in surround sound but okay in stereo is a bit weird

and the problem appears most common on ipads – but not all of them

  24. 20 December, 2015 at 5:19 pmdylan winter says:

I fear that is some way off

the cameras are really pricey at the moment

    Drone is the next investment

can you see the difference between std HD and 4K?

never seen one in the flesh

  25. 21 December, 2015 at 5:58 amRoss says:

Well done Dylan, great video, a very nice pre-Christmas treat for us all.

Wishing you, Jill and the family a very happy Christmas.

    Very best wishes
    Ross

    thanks Ross

    same to you guys

Jake and Danie are moving into their new boat home Jan 11th

they will just move the old one alongside and transfer all their stuff across

that is better than renting a removal van

They have a permanent mooring? Or have to shift ever two weeks?

Having to commute into a town-job when you are transient strikes me as near-impossible.
“Oh dear. Where did I park last-night?”

  31. 23 December, 2015 at 3:42 pmdylan winter says:

this one has a permanent mooring

  32. 23 December, 2015 at 9:08 pmEuan Mckenzie says:

just listened on my laptop using headphones and no issues with sound did I watch the fixed version?

Keep them coming, been waiting on these films

    Excellent

  33. 25 December, 2015 at 11:22 pmAde Moore says:

Great as ever Dylan Merry Xmas and a Happy Sailing New Year to you and Jill, spent the last half an hour of Christmas Day on my new iPad watching and enjoying no problems looked and sounded first class.

cheers Ade…. got a Kindle Fire today – watched some of the films – man they sound ropey – and some are not allowed to play on the Kindle because of the music used. Bumma

Hi Dylan I have been watching your videos since I found you on you tube visiting staithes and then your visit to the Tees where you came up the river. I have had boats on the river Tees since I was 13 and never been without a boat to this day and I am now 45 wish I had the time to visit some more of the ports up the coast which you have visited maybe next year if wife allows lol. Keep up the good work and hope you and your family all have a good new year.

    Take care Chris

  36. 30 December, 2015 at 8:18 amdylan winter says:

    Thanks Chris,

I did enjoy exploring the Tyne, Tees and Wear. The wear in particular was lovely. It always amazes when people sweep past the east coast hardly stopping on their way around.
