Wouldn’t have all those problems with a smaller boat…..
Still want to go bigger Dylan?

People asked “Why did Sir Francis Chichester decide to sail single handed” and we all know why, but here, smashing lad, this seemed like his father living his dream that he never could do …. Or is it just me?

Possibly. At a certain age responsibilities kick you in the nads and you are not allowed to go off sailing by yourself unless you’ve had handouts, so let’s say from 21-70 unless you retire early and the other half gets sick of you. Hmm…. so is Dylan officially retired then?

I think that the household was no stranger to parental pressure…. but then, even at the age of 60 (me) I can sometimes here me old Dad applying a bit of pressure from beyond the grave.

I know what he’s saying, he’s saying “show that lad how to rig sheet to tiller steering…bloomin’ new fangled autowotnots”.

last summer I turned down good work so that I could go sailing to Shetland. That was a first for me but the summer is the peak season for filming…. and for sailing. The good work was drying up….it is easy to see why. “Shall I employ this farty 60 year freelance in this hot place abroad or this fragrant, energetic and charming 25 year old who can carry all her/his own kit in one go?”

I have filmed enough conferences and factories now and would rather go sailing. Jill is still in semi-harness though.

Of course most people when they retire have a pension…. I guess the difference is that I have stopped filming conferences and started filming Scotland.

You’re bloody good at it though. And I haven’t heard a single fart .. the benefit of “wind” noise?… (sorry, couldn’t resist it). Although if you were still doing conferences I’d expect to hear loads – from the delegates obviously.
