New easy drop rig for Katie L on the Trent

I spent last week exploring the upper reaches of the Trent - going 70 miles inland. I will post more films later but for the time being here is a film about how the new rig performed

I am very pleased as it allowed me to beat to windward as well as going down wind

You looked like a one armed paper hanger at the end, but I guess you will perfect the drop with practice! But great to see you gliding along with only the background noises of the river instead of the throbbing of an outboard.

    Looking good,
I tried my laser rig on the Thames, manage a glorious 1.5 Knotts. I reversed the laser mast to put the goose neck at the front to attach the forstay. loose footed sail works well, but is a bit of a handful to slide over the mast.

Hi Dylan I live in Taupo New Zealand and sail a 17ft trailer sailer on Lake Taupo, which is the largest fresh water lake in the southern hemisphere.

What I would like to know is do you still have the Katie L as well as the Harmony.

I really enjoy the articles you have written in Practical Boat Owner and film on the trip to Hayling Island, which was my old stamping ground before I came to NZ 50 years ago.
    Safe cruising,

    Thanks Les,

I had to sell Harmony – I had her just for the one year and I had agreed with the bloke who loaned her to me that I would fix her up, sail her for one year and then sell her – which is what I did. I loaned Kate L to another sailor for that year. I am now back in Katie L. She has been in permanent commission for four years now and needs some TLC – so she is coming home this winter on a trailer and I will buy another old boat for sailing the west coast – another centaur I guess.

I could sell Katie L but she is perfect for an old bloke to sail around the essex rivers in when he is 85. So I am keeping her, spending some quality time doing her up while sailing some old chunk of thick set plastic around the outer hebs
