A great end to the story of you and Harmony. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series of shorter videos you have posted over the last few days, more so than the longer ones you have been posting.

Many thanks for you efforts and I look forward to seeing more videos in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyable. In particular, your description of that rough passage back to the mainland including what was going through your mind. We’ve all been there, to a greater or lesser extent and your openness about the experience is very consoling for those of us who feel that we can’t quite hack it anymore. I’ve been in similar situations but as a crew member with an experienced and hardened skipper. Doing stuff like that (or just the thought of it) with just me and my wife on a boat that was also our home raised my anxiety levels to a point where I stopped enjoying the whole thing. Good on yer, perhaps your nick-name should be “Gunga” Dylan.

I also have enjoyed this run of video-blogettes, it’s made a nice change from the longer vids. Great closing quote as well! Tapped.

Dylan, My mother-in-law passed away this morning – she was a great old bird. The good bit is I got time to watch the videos which are a delight. I’m now back sailing these waters and had a great winter sail in December last year when we visited Port Banatyne. We had to pull ourselves up the gang way to the toilets as the gratings were covered in ice! Mad coming back from the pub after a few beers. Had a great night sail through the Kyles of Bute – cold but absolutely stunning sail. Sailing from Oban to St Kilda starting 11 May. Looking forward tom this sail of lifetime.

you need to get sailing as soon as you can – watching that wake dissipating behind you while the bow cuts through water is the therapy you need.

What more can I add, Cracking set of films Dylan. Hopefully it will get the tappers going.

Excellent as always Dylan. And if watching this isn’t worth a tenner of anybody’s money then I don’t know what is…

Really enjoyed your west coast videos – will return to them soon as I plan to retrace your steps myself in late April in my own Centaur. (Craobh to Gairloch).

I shall miss your trenchant comments until you start posting videos again from the comfort of your Fisher!

Its been a while since I checked in.
I enjoyed the films of the trip to the Cyde. Familiar territory for me, which makes it even more interesting.
Also I know some very interesting little places you missed. Enjoyed it just the same.
I spent a little bit of time sailing near Crinan in October Beautiful cold and wet. It was the last time for a while the old family boat now sold.
There’s a big world out there to sail but its a special part.
I tapped my pittance. For the enjoyment of what has been done. Still hopefully one day you will make it back to the area.
Or continue to a new one.
With a bit of luck I might get to sail there again some day not to far away.

I whizzed past so many wonderful places – all we saw was a single narrow strip of the Clyde. I plan to return.

    Dylan,

Hope you got my post. I have been rewatching season 8 with your wonderful family. The tenor of those videos warms my fatherly/grandfatherly heart every time. What amazing offspring!

Big gathering of Macgregors planned for the East coast this summer….might be fun!

    Cheers,

    David

    thanks R,

I gave tht boat one heck of an eight months of sailing – screwed every penny of value out of the investment.

    Saw some wonderful things.

Dylan – a word of thanks from me. My wife and I have spent many an evening watching your films (for they are indeed mini films), due to your silky delivery, subtle humour and wonderful descriptions; I have gained a crew member! My wife is blind so your audio description of the surroundings, mixed with the brilliantly captured soundscape, has made your films something that she wants to experience. We have now sailed a few jaunts up and down the Forth and in a week’s time intend on sailing to Tayport from our home town in Dalgety Bay.

I use the phrase “Sailing Dylan Winter Style”, which means leisurely, with control and safety. It resonates with her and spreads a sense of calm, like oil on water.

In this age of pneumatically breasted, bikini clad twenty-somethings, sailing Daddy’s massive yacht in crystal clear warm waters, we need you more than ever! A real bloke sailing a real boat in real waters.

Prior to daring to contact you I have made the appropriate bung, for as long as my wife sails with me it will be an annual thing, a small token of my gratitude.

Thanks Jock, good man indeed. I confess that within an hour of losing sight of land my mind starts to wander…. I start l;istening to music, pick up a book, start cooking, cleaning the stove. I just drop out of the zen of sailing.

  20. 8 November, 2018 at 11:49 amDave Chadderton says:

Thank you Dylan for permitting a frustrated old sailor to share your journey. I am struggling to accept that at 68 years old my chances of ever sailing again are fast disappearing over the horizon. My trusty Enterprise will stay in my garage loved but unused forever.

  21. 8 November, 2018 at 6:09 pmdylan winter says:

I raced and owned enterprises for many years – they are the perfect dinghy – they sail like a treat – so light on the rudder – like holding a paintbrush

can you not buy an 18 footer and keep it in a marina for a while? That is my plan for my last few years

    always fancied a westerly Nimrod
