Offer five grand? I’m making a ten quid contribution towards it. Only need a further 149 MOBs to do the same and Bob’s your uncle. If it works, how about Uncle Bob for a name ;) ?

I offered 5K – which I do not have yet

    that is his return offer

I am tempted to do something rash – but I must hold onto the thought that there are lots of centaurs out there

PS I think Katie Mhor is a good name but then so is catspaw

    Name it: Moose

  4. 8 September, 2015 at 12:17 pmdylan winter says:

What can I say. If you haven’t got the funds then its a non-starter. If you can find the money then surely your next move is to go and see the boat for yourself. I think you will find Neyland is a weary journey from Bucks but I suppose its all relative and compared with Northern Scotland it won’t seem so bad. Neyland is lovely so its well worth a visit. Yes, why Moose? Perhaps he meant ‘Mouse’ which is something you find in a Catspaw.

you are right there are lots of centaurs around –

  8. 8 September, 2015 at 1:36 pmdylan winter says:

wait – sit tight – if I miss this one others will be around

Patience – steady hand. The autumn is still young

Did you go look at her in Wales? Or made a semi-blind offer?

She looks like she needs very little fettling, more likely just a cleaning and some time and effort commissioning her as far as sorting out the gear and filling any holes in the equipment-list. That’s an amazing compact and clean engine install, and from what I can see in the pics the wiring-work looks neat and proper. There’s always something that needs to be done or improved, and she’ll need an outboard bracket. But that install is fairly straight forwards.

The Layout-C cabin plan with the galley aft makes the seating area a bit more “social” when you do have guests. And the trade-off of the quarter-berth for deeper cockpit locker space isn’t a handicap since you mostly sail single-handed or short-handed.

She’ll look quite fetching with your great red sail on the forestay.

    Let’s see what happens…

    How about Kitty L?

  12. 8 September, 2015 at 2:57 pmJoseph Moore says:

Sit tight. The guy is only going to have to contemplate the looming bill for next year’s storage fees. He’d be a fool to have to pay them for the sake of a £500 hit now.

ps. Catspaw is a fine name.

  13. 8 September, 2015 at 3:50 pmJames Jeffrey says:

I’m amazed by the difference in what Centaurs are advertised for and what people ACTUALLY pay!

  14. 8 September, 2015 at 4:27 pmdylan winter says:

I think it might be true of most boats….especially at this time of year

  15. 8 September, 2015 at 4:28 pmdylan winter says:

I think it is great name

    hold tight… you are right

  16. 8 September, 2015 at 4:53 pmdjeffery says:

Dark hull looks good. Paint over the powder blue nonskid with gray or Bristol beige, and it would look sharp. Maybe offer 4850. Name? “Redux”

  17. 8 September, 2015 at 5:37 pmjohn says:

Broker put my 27 year old boat up for 12k in 2012 at this time of the year. It made 6200k in April 2013 it would seem that the market is driven by crooked surveyors reports and boot sale mentality. I feel sure that you will find the boat that fits this winter Dylan. Good luckvc

  18. 8 September, 2015 at 5:40 pmdylan winter says:

already said I would come and look at it if they would take 5k

the clock is ticking – planning to head to scotland to film autumn in the Moray Firth on Thursday and am currently packing the car – lots of warm clothes- hot water bottle – double sleeping bags etc

I could slip over to Pembroke on the way to Scotland –

I won’t be back south for 17 days

so maybe some-one will take her at 5.5K

I might find an OK centaur in scotland – which would save some miles

    D

PS _ I like the blue hull too

  19. 8 September, 2015 at 8:06 pmPhil Sitch says:

If you need to re-offer the “no interest loan till 2020” to make up the difference, I would be in, and I am sure others would be if it is the right boat yor your needs.

  21. 8 September, 2015 at 8:29 pmEuan Mckenzie says:

I’ll support you too if needs be – £50 shares perhaps – dividend could be free viewing to shareholders

  22. 8 September, 2015 at 8:31 pmEuan Mckenzie says:

PS you need to call her Katie Mhor though!

  23. 8 September, 2015 at 8:33 pmdylan winter says:

but it is all free anyway

  24. 8 September, 2015 at 8:33 pmdylan winter says:

I like the name Katie Mhor … and I like the colour of this boat

I am assuming that the engine is in great nick – the rest looks well looked after, the galley is in a good place too

I reckon some-one will buy her before I come back from Scotland….. lots more centaurs around though

  25. 8 September, 2015 at 10:23 pmApplejack Jim says:

I wouldn’t bet on Catspaw being sold whilst you are “sunning” yourself in Scotland. There are not that many buyers wandering around and Neyland is not very local for many sailing folk…..

  26. 8 September, 2015 at 10:57 pmRon G says:

Kitty Litter…knew there was something I was meant to do before I settled down.

Big, slow moving animal that spends it’s day in the water.

Agreed. Tenner from me via the Keep Making Sailing Films vs Fettling film buttons (tried via the general Donate page but only gave me the option of dollars).

Also happy to put in to the interest free loan idea if that takes off.

  29. 9 September, 2015 at 7:53 amPaul Thompson says:

A good boat in reasonable nick is definitely worthy of serious consideration. The cheap boat in poor condition will cost both time and money to bring up to scratch. I’d not consider the extra 500.00 a stretch if the boat is as good as she looks in the photo’s.

I too would be willing to chip in 50.00 pounds to help if need be… not that I can afford it as I’ve my own circumnavigation (single handed) to fund and that is costing all I have.

  30. 9 September, 2015 at 9:07 amdylan winter says:

Thanks P – not sure which way to go on this one.

I am sure that J and co are correct – sit tight – wait – there are lots of boats out there and not many people with £5K ready to buy an elderly (but soundish) Centaur at this time of year.

If I do not get Catspaw others are around

Time I have…. – In a months time Katie L will be back in the garden so the overheads will dissappear for a while and I can divert all taps into the Centaur pot.

I am conmfident that I can find one ready to roll for the money I already have so that I can sail and film this winter – but I relish the uncertainty and we are hardly into autumn yet. So there is lots to play for.

I agree what you say about £500 being not much – especially when I live in a house that is worth 2,000 times as much – but money in houses is not real money.

However, I reckon that sailing costs me around £100 for three days afloat so that £500 out of the sailing budget represents 15 days sailing lost. You can do a lot of boat fixing in fifteen days. Everything is a balance. Which is as it should be.

I am going up to Scotland in the morning and will be sailing with dolphins. I will stay up for three weeks and then come home to fetch the van and trailer to bring Katie L home for the much needed application of sandpaper and unguents

    – van rental is £400 petrol for that jaunt will be about £150 – suddenly £500 has gone

Today the bearings for the trailer will arrive so I need to put those on and give the electrics and breaks the once over

The rare C layout? Always thought it was the best one (better to stretch/lounge out).

  32. 9 September, 2015 at 8:07 pmEuan Mckenzie says:

Then why do we hit Paypal regularly

Just trying the help you see the light and buy a robust boat with a good engine. It can be miserable out there as well as beautiful. Remember Cape Wrath!

  33. 9 September, 2015 at 8:17 pmdylan winter says:

oh you are right… you are so right

okay – back the way we were

of course this one does not need fixing … yet…. and is ready to roll

I do know that over the next five years it will go boing

it is lovely though isn’t it

if I bought it for 2K I would refund you blokes your money
