Advert says it was placed in 2012!

    Still for sale?

  2. 25 January, 2014 at 6:30 pmdylan winter says:

it makes no sense at all

Weird. Is the seller Mr. Reg Stan by any chance?

Maybe they started at 7.9k but are now desperate to sell. Maybe worth a punt at 2k?

Plan D: With 35 Centaurs advertised on Yachtworld (and none near your desired price), why not consider adding a smaller vessel similar to Katie L at your price point. Then you could sail in company with others in your family as a two-boat fleet. With two smaller boats you would less invested yet have more space, perhaps more safety, more flexibility in switching crews, some family informal racing and so on.

    I like this idea.

    I reckon he could be

  8. 25 January, 2014 at 11:02 pmdylan winter says:

getting rid of that steering wheel would be a real challenge

  9. 25 January, 2014 at 11:03 pmdylan winter says:

That is both a clever, yet crazy idea.

    Hi
The second boat could be a Pandora bilge keel. Van de Stadt wonderful sailing boat. When the 3′ draft is too deep all switch to Hunterfor a day sail up a creek.
They are wonderfully underpriced yachtsand as with all Ricus designs except for Mirror excellent sailing boats and very seaworth.I sent you some photos of my modifiedone recently.

One snag with the the two small boats is ….. twice as much stuff to go wrong …. and the seakeeping qualities of the Centaur will be jolly handy when dealing with the Pentland and Cape Wrath

Have you tried 2K for the Leeds edition? If it is at 3K the seller has already accepted a scrap value for the boat and will likely also let it go for 2K?

How about punting this lot an offer with “12 months deferred payment” then sell it on?

Much more suitable for a cruise to Orkney and Shetland, maybe the’d rent you it!

How much would you loose on it?

It doesn’t have to be this boat – just a few thoughts on a different way to make your summer holiday happen

Wouldn’t retrofitting with a tiller be worth another couple of pages to PBO? Maybe there is some way to mount the wheel on top of the planned well?

    and I assume you’ve seen this one?http://www.keepturningleft.co.uk/tag/dylan-winter/

I has been suggested that the Leeds one is just a scam with the pix lifted to ensnare the unwary. The wheel would be a right pain

Shadow seems worth investigating and proven in the waters ahead. The two-boat solution might seem as if twice as much might go wrong, but gives the possibility of one coming to the aid of the other, a more likely scenario. Brits are a tough seafaring bunch, but four crew and a dog–a large one–on a 26-footer sounds like a set up for the plot of a novel that could have at best a comic outcome.

I have been watching that one for two months

firm 3K at the moment – they are not shifting an inch

as a family we do not do argueing

and we have spent lots of years camping

the good thing about the UK trip is that if either of the kids – or Jill – or the dog come to that – feel like abandoning ship then they can just step ashore and catch a bus or ferry

I can get a well looked after Centaur for the same money and at short notice – which is plan B at the moment – although I am not one to close the books on any plan C, D or E.

I assume Shadow has a socking great deep keel – and I love my twin keels

Howerver, I have filled in the little form asking for more details

    and here they are

    Dylan,

I’m afraid we sold Shadow this week – sorry about that! Will take her off websites asap!

Happy boat hunting – we are doing the same ourselves now.

    Regards,

    Derek

I’ll stick with admiration and give up on advice. Around here–a shallow tidal creek of Chesapeake Bay–the water is frozen solid. Geese are huddled on ice or walking awkwardly on it. Watermen are ashore. Diving ducks have left: goldeneyes, ruddy ducks, buffleheads. Quiet.

  21. 26 January, 2014 at 6:28 pmdylan winter says:

nooooo – don’t give up on the advice

there are many different ways to skin a cat

and blimey there are so many options with this one

so all lateral thinking gratefully considered

I am currently reading the Michener Book mabout the Chesapeake and I go on little google tours of the place – you are one lucky man

One for 2500 GBP and ‘open for offers’

  23. 27 January, 2014 at 2:30 pmdylan winter says:

    well spotted

I contacted them just before christmas – the price came down to 1750

I contacted them with an offer but the day I called it had been loaded onto a trailer and hauled away

I kick myself on a daily basis for missing that one at £1750

It shows that I am not hunting snarks though

  24. 27 January, 2014 at 5:48 pmDon Chesley says:

Have you considered using a Kickstarter or other croudfunding source to raise more funds for your project. You could offer the new video as a reward on kickstarter.

I have thought of such things – it seems rather self indulgent – selling DVDs and downloads feels proper

also KTL viewers are mostly blokes my age or older

all a bit mysterious and weird

I am not sure I would do it for another bloke – too many online details to fill in

if it was video about surfing or skating then maybe the deomographic would be comfortable with it
