Sell your Hunter Minstrel?
I hope I never have to sell her – she is so perfect for this east coast – where I intend to end my sailing days. She is cheap to keep, easy to sail, has already been converted to epower, draws 13 inches, can live in th garden in the winter. As one bloke who owned an old boat but hardly sailed said to me “It keeps the dream alive”.
Others just as good will come up eventually

Worth a closer look, as in good nick 30-40 years old they go on average for around 225,000 DKK around here
I agree. The boat is newly refurbished including paint inside and on deck. Seller invites offers. Looks a deal.

Both of the Freewrads on the river here at Waldringfield are for sale. They are tough hulls – but still no heated steering area. They are astonishingly cheap though.

thanks Paul – too big for me and for the emergency 6hp tohatsu to go on the back. The other thing I learned from the centaur is that even at 26 feet I could get some pretty good marina discounts because they often have spaces for short ones.

good on all counts – except the cabin where I expect to be living for four months a year for about five years. Jill woojld do her nut. That boat has been around for a year or so – the price falling by about £500 a month. Som-one will go for it…but not me
Why not paint the cabin or modify the layout? Seems to be doable.
It is a lot of work – I would have said three month solid yard time – I think that cabin changes, if they are to look good, require a standard of workmanship that I cannot deliver. I keep on looking at it – but even the wheelhouse is different from standard fisher 25s. The head is in the wrong place, the galley is in a weird place.
I would buy it. Then you have it and you can sail it. Maybe you get used to it, if not you can change it over time. From your films I get the impression you can tolerate a lot of inconveniencies that many others would run away from screaming.

and probably spent the equivalent of 18 months living in her.
I expect to live in the Fisher for a year or more – spread over five years. I would hope that Jill will come with me for some it – I know that sailing that converted Fisher would mean that I spent less time with Jill. The price is really attractive though.
At that price there is plenty of leeway as to what and how you bring her up to a better level of comfort, or whatever. Even the engine looks good from the outside. Given your previous statement that a crap boat is better than no boat what is the real reason for rejecting her, certainly without stepping aboard for a look?
Dylan – on the ones without inside pilothouse, would a cockpit enclosure work? They seem to have a hard dodger/windscreen so that part is done. Using maybe a heavier (1.25″ vs 7/8″) stainless frames it could be quite strong. Like the enclosures on flybridge motoryachts.
Not sure if that off sets the cheap purchase cost. But may get you where you need to be. Also, could be opened / panels removed for fair weather.
Just a thought.
The none cabin freewards ones are the same hull -but the fisher hull is no better than a centaur hull – maybe worse. For sailing in scotland in the winter, when the wildlife and the light is at its best it is not just shelter from the wind and rain – I really need to be able to shut the door, turn up the eberspacher and carry on sailing even though it is windchill minus 5 outside.
I hope I do not get seasick inside.
I have spoken to a few fisher owners and get mixed reports on this issue. So far thyough I have only been seasick once – and that was on a coastal passage on a friends 33 footer.
On sea sickness: I have never been sea sick but I have a very sensitive stomach relative to medicines. Dramamine and Bonine make me feel awful (tried on land). Stugeron is incredibly effective and has minimal side effects until you get a dose too large. First it acts as a stimulant, then apparently in large doses is a seizure med. I take 15mg or less about every 8 hours and never feel sleepy or caffeinated nor sick. May be worth a try while ashore to check side effects. I believe it can be had over-the-counter in the UK. I have a friend whose daughter gets me some while she’s at school in the UK.

As mentioned n the 6 Sept, looks a good buy. Engine looks well cared for and with 280 hours on the clock. Price has to be right, even if there is some maintenance on the engine to check it out. Your Criticism of the interior I assume to be more cosmetic than structural, but even that is not too difficult. I assume that she would be good to sail keepingleft along the south coast and a tad northwards to the Deben for work over the winter (pun?) be carried out close to home. What do you think Dylan, worth a look?
Buy the Fisher currently below GBP 8000. This is what what your MOB’s want and the tool needed to keep the saga on track.

Did you know that the Fisher 25 is back in production. Built in Sri Lanka and imported with heater, electric windlass and everything including a Yanmar 3YM30 engine for £106,000. I saw the first one at Southampton Boat show on Wednesday.
It had a lot of people looking at it. Such an iconic design.
