There is something very voyeristic watching oneself. I find it very unsettling. How very odd!

Nicely done gentlemen! The boat is really shaping up. The previous owner wouldn’t recognize it. You should get more than your investment back, if you do sell Harmony after the voyage. And I wouldn’t mind being as thin and young looking as Barry. :-)

I have seen them at the trade shows. It was rather entertaining when the guy demostrating it took off all the paint on his sample panel. They work by generating heat. With sign vinyl you also end up with a big gooey mess whizzing around on the end of a drill.
If they were that good all the sign guys would be using them. Sadly its a rather horrible nasty job that has to be done now and then.
Like stripping paint and old varnish, theres no quick fix. I wish there were!

Also just to add, recent vinyl can be peeled easily. I could go back to Harmony and peel off all the stripes etc and you wouldn’t even know they had been applied. The original “George Gunn” vinyl on KatieL came off easily. It hadn’t been affected by the UV the way the vinyl on Harmony had been.

Sweating the small stuff indeed! What happened to the utilitarian “sling a couple of lilos and a truck battery in a stripped out shell” quick-and-dirty approach? :-)

    you make a good point.

I was prepared to take on almost any Centaur for this next phase of KTL. If it was a stripped out wreck then I would have sailed that. It kept the window right open for potential boats.

this boat came along at a brilliant up front price (lower than the price of a wreck) with more to pay when she is sold in better fettle next year.

G was too ill to get her ready for the water in time for crane in day which was a fixed for march 17 – no compromises. He saw me speak at the RAFYC and he wanted me to have her and take her on an adventure he could follow virtually. Very nice man.

of course if you would like me to strip everything out and bring in the lilos and charcoal stove to make a better story…….
