Maldon Approaches

The Blackwater estuary leads to Maldon – one of the gems of the East Coast. It is home to Thames barge repair yards where these brilliant workhorses of the North Sea are kept in working order. To drift in here and tie up in a mud berth among all this floating history is a real treat.

    Really enjoying your lovely vids…atmospheric and very informative. One niggle…in the battle of Maldon the Saxons were the defenders. There’s a wonderful Anglo Saxon poem ‘The Battle of Maldon’. Tolkien used it as a source for one of the poems in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ …
