KeepTurningLeft Season 7 film 1 Finding Harmony

I started looking seriously for a Centaur in November

By the end of Jan I was working hard on her

by the middle of March she was afloat and sailing

thanks to a string of MOB's came to visit, yak, drink tea, work and drop off surplus kit

bloody brilliant

Each of these films takes about three weeks to edit. I have 12 more films in the can before I run out of material. These films will cover the West Coast of Shetland including Scalloway, the rough nightime crossing of the Pentland Firth, down to Loch Eribol, around Cape Wrath which was a pussycat that day, down the North Minch to the Summer Isles, to the amazing Handa,Loch Drambuie, Salen, Tobermory, the sound of Mull, CorryVrekan, Craobh, through the Crinan canal and the Clyde to Glasgow - and a few more places along the way.

If I am to re-boot the series with a boat that can keep me, the camera gear and my clothes dry and warm I need to average £2K per film - or about a third of the money that the bikini sailors earn per Week. Thanks for considering helping that happen

Enjoyed that Dylan and dropped some dosh in your coffers! Makes me think of the jobs I need to do this year! Am using Jeckell’s this year. They offer a great product great service at a fair price.

    Great video, thanks for this….
It’s 65 days til launch here in frozen Canada, the snow is thick on the ground and Toronto Harbour is frozen clear across. What a stupid bloody climate, might as well be in Scotland. Looking forward to more of Season 7!

I don’t know how you guys get through your winters – I worked in Calgary for a while – aaaaaaaagh!

At least I have the duck punt for when the sun shines

You have to enjoy the winter activities as much as the summer. Snow can be a lot of fun, although we don’t have much here to play with at the moment. I’m expecting around 85 days before launching in mid May.

How is Harmony, Dylan – has she sold yet?

  6. 12 February, 2015 at 1:14 pmdylan winter says:

    Not yet

no rush – the season has barely started

she is a yacht ready to roll with minimal work involved

wait until mid march when the old blokes get a sniff of the sea in their nostrils – you have to admit she looks pretty good in the film

Yes snow can be great fun. However I decided to celebrate my 60th by going skiing with most of my family. Wonderful first day on the slopes until on the final run my 26 yr old daughter had her first and only fall. Ruptured Anterior Crutiate Ligament. So Wife and daughter are repatriated whilst son and I then try to ski as 1 metre of snow is dropped on the Alps over 4 days making conditions very difficult! Normally skiing is wonderful but there are always exceptions just like sailing.

Good to get the duck punt out Dylan, I gotta make myself one of those!!! Looks great fun and you can sail it on a puddle!
Doesn’t look to complex to build!

Sitting here, watched your film, and now I’m feeling guilty about all those jobs awaiting me on ‘Drift’. Thanks mate… At least I’ve stayed in the water all winter and had some great short trips amongst the seals and brent geese. You are going to miss Harmony so much. Being able to stand up in the mornings in the winter without freezing your xxxxx off is a real bonus.

    All the best

Dylan, power to your blog and multicultural Britain. I’m gonna wait till I’m too old to paddle and if I survive get a yacht. Corribee still looks good to me but I’m a sucker for a neat transom. You don’t need to say where I’m going wrong. Keep turning left. MP

    I am going to anyway

when you are too old to paddle you will also be too old to live in a Coribbee cabin – buy the boat now while you are still limber enough – or it is a mirror offshore for you my lad

If I was as civilised as you I might get one of those. I had a Fantasie, basically a stretched Silhouette, till even that got expensive and I acquired a folding kayak This used to travel as checked-in baggage on the plane but no more.
Theres a lot to be said too for sit-on-top kayaks and it’s the boat of choice of a growing band of intrepid sea anglers. The nice thing about them is you don’t have to learn to roll. If it gets too hairy you just abandon ship. A dry suit and an EPIRB helps too of course.
Seriously, I’d get something like a Miller Fifer for my dotage if I could afford it but no prospect of that. Which is the name of the game I guess.

    Hi Dylan,
Here is a site to give you memories of “LA” – How about starting a MOB fund to buy you a Drone Camera ? Pictures from the top of the mast without having to climb up it.

Amazing to stumble on Francis’s Robertsons Golly. It was a different time wasn’t it. Thought you handled that well… and moving on!

  15. 28 February, 2016 at 10:33 pmdylan winter says:

also amazing that a jam manufacturer would sponsor sailing

  16. 28 February, 2016 at 10:44 pmChris says:

Thanks for that. I am just too incurios sometimes. I had no idea what Robertsons Golly was or the source of the image which I first saw in a pic of Clare Francis. Ahh sponsorship

  17. 29 February, 2016 at 9:56 amdylan winter says:

But I have the finest sponsors in the World – old small boat sailors who seem to ask nothing more than an undertaking to make some more films. They offer advice, encouragement, their thanks, weird books I would never have read but have really enjoyed and money towards the project. Brilliant.
