Sorry about the delay chaps - I moved house so that really got in the way of making films.

Now that most sensible people watch the films on their big tellies it seems that a slightly longer film might work. So this one is an hour.

let me know if it works or lingers too long

Thanks Dylan, very well done. The sixty minutes works fine for me and I am very pleased to see that there will be a further two films in due course. John Arthur is quite a character, I am pleased that you included your conversation with him, it was a joy to hear. Harmony was looking really smart, all credit to you. P.

Is the HD Video in 720p or 1080p?.

It should be 1080 with any luck

that is good – I was wondering if I let John Arthur go on too long – but I really liked the bloke. He still makes me laugh.

PS… 60min is great, only had time for 15 min tonight but bookmarked to watch later.

    57 mins? it’ll be 90 on Dave :)

I’m saving it for later, too late to start now.

Paypal link worked for me. The hour format is perfect — beats most of what passes for entertainment on TV that’s for sure.

most curious – the web is a weird thing

  13. 21 December, 2016 at 11:25 amJohn Whitehead says:

Hi Dilan, you need to add a £ 10 and £ 15 pay option for these longer films, those who want to pay less or free for the ride can continue to do so. Might provide 2p towards a heater for Jill fund, which would not be a bad thing!

  14. 21 December, 2016 at 11:57 amJohn McAlinden says:

That was just great, thanks. A wonderful and encouraging thing to watch on the shortest day of the year. Happy Christmas to you and yours.

It is an amazing place to sail – we had a good time there. A real advenbture.

people can always tap twice – or not at all, but to put higher amounts up sounds greedy to me. I like the idea that people can rate the film by tapping. More taps for a good one – fewer for a lemon.

That was a bloody quick hour!

  19. 22 December, 2016 at 8:22 amdylan winter says:

I will stick with that for a while then and see how it goes – I used to make longer TV progs when I was working full time so I am at home with the format as opposed to the gobbet style of TV production

Thanks Dylan – especially enjoyed John Arthur, made me chuckle a couple of times. I too like the hour long format.

I can’t get away with watching an hour of anything right now a couple of days before Christmas and a road trip. Will try to watch while visiting over Xmas. But defiantly looking forward to it.

  32. 26 December, 2016 at 7:21 amMichael De Vere says:

Great film, Dylan. I think the format brings out the best in you.

We’ve been wondering what happened to you ~ perhaps you need to warn your viewers next time you do something as drastic as moving house: we thought you might have missed a turn and followed the Viking route to the Americas!

So glad we still have you with us and very much look forward to seeing more of these films.

  33. 26 December, 2016 at 8:08 amdylan winter says:

that is good then…. I will aim to make the next one an hour long. It means fewer films and a move away from the 20 minute gobbets of stories. It was a really enjoyable adventure – bigger boat with inside steering is needed for the next trip up there though

  34. 26 December, 2016 at 11:09 pmDavid Priest says:

Great film Dylan, really enjoyed it on our big Telly as a Boxing Day treat. Living in Shetland I know you did bloody well with the weather. Fantastic when the weather is good, but you have to really have the time to wait for it..and when it does turn up so does the Haar..and then you have to go to work instead..
Disappointed my house doesn’t feature, but you do manage to get in some good stuff on Lerwick and you say Whalsay – ‘Wol sah’`. Keep ’em coming mate ..great films, always cheer me up.!

  35. 27 December, 2016 at 10:58 pmNormanB says:

Dylan – thank you for assembling this longer video, it was just the right length and yes I did enjoy it on my big telly. Editing a video of this length is truly a work of both passion and persistence and must represent many hours in the editing suite. In the same way that Eric and Susan Hiscock’s ‘Beyond the West Horizon’ captured a slice of social and world history, so your work is developing into a body of work that reflects a view and commentary of our time around our Islands. Thank you and a Happy New Year.?

Just got a huuge! 4K TV as a gift for Christmas. Now I’m inspired to see if I can hook it up to my PC or tablet so I can watch it properly. (I like the 60-min. format.) Of course then I’ll have to go back and start all-over

In other yachting news, Thomas Coville just sailed Around the World in 49-days in a trimaran,…a Trimaran!!
    http://www.yachtingworld.com/news/coville-sets-incredible-new-49-day-solo-round-the-world-record-with-a-blistering-average-speed-of-23-knots-102483

…And it’s Sydney to Hobart Race week.

Now, if we could only get Drake “Dread-Pirate” Roberts to pick-up the pace. It’s been three-years so-far from Oriental NC to Lunenburg NS. (…just kidding, Drake!)

  37. 28 December, 2016 at 1:22 pmTom Young says:

Very well done! Our kids are home for the holidays and having grown up sailing with us, we enjoyed it together. Thank you, Dylan.

  38. 28 December, 2016 at 10:01 pmDominic says:

Amazing achievement to get so far round the British Isles without a sailing qualification to your name, while an RYA sailor can become a Yachmaster by crossing the English Channel a couple of times.

  39. 28 December, 2016 at 10:42 pmdylan winter says:

That is true – the only qualification I have is a vhf licence. On the other hand I am a great admirer of the RYA. They do a great job in defending the rights of sailors and have trained lots of good sailors – although some of the courses are a bit expensive and tend to focus too much on learning to sail a £50K 40 footer with a steering wheel rather than a small yacht. All that aside sailing is easy, sailing is safe.

  40. 28 December, 2016 at 10:48 pmdylan winter says:

careful Tom, they may never come home again.

  41. 28 December, 2016 at 10:51 pmdylan winter says:

It is pretty time consuming that is true – but this one has garnered some useful feedback – I think that it has persuaded MOBs to hitch their tvs to their computers or watch on a smart telly rather than grazing it on the laptop or desktop. A different experience for sure. I do need to get a longer stick for the camera – My ugly plug on the big screen is an terrible thing to see

    D

  42. 29 December, 2016 at 10:52 amStephen Mundane says:

Yes, the RYA do do some good work. I learned the rudiments of sailing with the RYA on a £50K 40 footer with a steering wheel, and in the Solent to boot. As I’m unlikely to ever be able to afford the steering wheel, let alone the other 40 feet of boat attached to it, it probably wasn’t the wisest of choices! When my health improves (fingers crossed) I’ll see about getting something more in keeping with my finances and physical capabilities and then learn to be a good sailor in my own time. In the meantime, I’ll stick with living vicariously through your splendid films. Thanks again Dylan.

    Great film, Thanks

  44. 31 December, 2016 at 2:12 amWarren says:

so Watching on the big Telly.
I finally got time to watch, but a new first for me, I had just switched back to a different tv supplier, (it almost all cable or satalite in the States), in my case to Fios from Verizon or Voda-phone in EU from Comcast/xfinity cable.
As I moved thru the channel array what did I see but You-tube, no need to stream from Apple TV or roku or some other device, 20 seconds of searching and there it is my #1 favorite on all my other devices, Keep Turn Left , and there is season 8 part 13 in HD with 4430 views so far.
How cool is that? You made the big time again!
    Thank you Dylan

    Warren
Ps maybe I’m the last to know but I love it!

  45. 31 December, 2016 at 7:44 amdylan winter says:

It is a much better way to watch youtube – and the youtube compressions are just as good as vimeo – I bet that the telly then offers you La vagabonde or velos to watch next.

4,000 hits in the first week is good for me. La vagabonde gets 60,000 in the first day. Goodonem I say but it does show that there are fewer people who want to watch an old Brit schlepping slowly yet wittliy around a cold island who want to watch some marvellous looking women in bikinis. I do watch the bikini girls bt I am not really sure where they are there other than to go swimming

I know you are an ex pat but I wonder if my films have changed the way a few old blokes perceive the UK. I know that I am learning a lot about tbhis remarkable little island and about myself as well.

  46. 31 December, 2016 at 1:46 pmTom Young says:

    They loved it!

Good thing they were home, we watched it on the TV(which we didn’t know we could). With a simple ROKU box(we cut the cable ages ago), they showed us we had YouTube through the ROKU (don’t laugh…). Searched KTL and voila! There they are, your episodes on the big screen.

Our kids 25-26, are my internet tools, I need to learn nothing, which is a good feeling.

Great New film…. featuring you and Jill… just wanted to make sure that this headline from 3 January 2017…. is not disrupting your yacht, or new location (house) … as the news just reported…”North Sea ‘earthquake’ of magnitude 3.9 strikes 100 miles off the coast of Scarborough – did you feel anything?
    http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/north-sea-earthquake-magnitude-39-12401867#rlabs=1%20rt$sitewide%20p$1

Your Film on Scarborough was great so…
please let “www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news” … know that KTL will continue despite the ocean quake.

We’ll be sending funds like the last time….to support your efforts… but not electronically since putin and trump secretly purchased twitter from …. you know who…

all going swimmingly – slept like a baby

  49. 15 January, 2017 at 5:26 pmWarren says:

    Hi Dylan,
Sort of tricked my wife to watch this on Sunday morning, (a direct tv channel does make it easy) we both enjoyed it although she wonder about her ability to withstand the downwind rolling that stuff gets her seasick quickly.
She was expecting only half an hour and we both agreed a part 1 &2 would also work for us. Perhaps a small cliff hanger in the middle ( lost in fog…..).
I don’t follow la vagabong or SV Delos, I don’t see much of a story in their videos but maybe I need to watch more.
I enjoy ‘follow the boat’ ‘drake paragon’ ‘white spot pirate’ ‘accidental sailor girl’ and the like where there is real boating activity with story line and also Video of where they visit. Your channel is however the very best as you do the research into where you visit and provide great historical and human interest.
As an expat I/we really enjoy seeing more of the country we grew up in. It really inspirers me to want to visit as some of these areas and possibly spend more time in U.K. after retirement or even retire early to enjoy some of this. I spend countless hours thinking about buying a U.K. Boat or property to live in to enjoy some of U.K.
Since I lost my parents and there is only my brother in U.K. now ( & mothers law) its harder to find free accommodation for an extended stay. So yes, your videos have defiantly changed the way think about U.K. and the rest of my life and hopefully inspiring me to get on and find a way out of the rat race of running a 2 demanding businesses.( even if it is very interesting and challenging).
Scotland is amazing looking but I am realistic about the weather and a short trip would be my limit i think. I do enjoy being away from the endless overcast and rain but the summer heat here is oppressive and hard sail in.
    Cheers Warren
Ps pubs are almost a good enough reason to return to U.K.! I have become an only occasional drinker here.

  50. 15 January, 2017 at 6:11 pmdylan winter says:

    Thanks W,

tricking wives is a very bad habit. I have often thought that buying an old boat and an old car in a country for a summer would be an excellent way to see a place

I have just got back from Scotland tonight. Two long days driving for two short days sailing. Not really worth it. I shall have to re-think this part of the project.

  51. 16 January, 2017 at 4:03 pmwarren says:

Are trains too expensive or difficult to travel to Scotland?
I think once a month to Scotland would be plenty especially with the difficult weather conditions there. (or take 2-3 months off and do some Duck punt sailing as time/weather permits. Try to hook up with the West Mersea guys….they are only an hour away.

I have a car full of stuff – I cannot leave bedding and clothes on the boat – otherwise it would just rot

  53. 17 January, 2017 at 6:53 amAndrew says:

Thank you, and a Happy New Year to you two too. We don’t have a tv on the boat we live on and our vote would be for two half hour instalments, having said which we can choose to watch it that way if we want to, so do what ever you feel like doing.
Nice to watch someone having the best sail of their lives as the water here slowly freezes over. How are the steel barge kids getting on? A

  54. 17 January, 2017 at 8:41 amdylan winter says:

    thanks A,

I am sad to report that the barge kids have gone their separate ways – but a fairly amicable parting of the waters I would say. It all seemed so perfect…. and their happiness together made everyone around them happy too. Danie is still on the big barge and Jake is currently on the hunt for a barge of his own with the inevitable help of a loan from the Bank of Mum and Dad
