Launch day on Monday

Harmony is almost ready for the water. On Monday the crane arrives at 8.30. The boat has had her through hulls sorted, Dave spent four days sorting the electrics, she has been anti-fouled, fuel tank drained, engine started. Headlinings are back up On sunday I will put the sails on ready for the next day. Costs so far are Littlehampton Storage - £500 Crane in £75 Boat gubbins and unguents - £150 Insurance £80 Mileage - six trips to Littlehampton - usually 360 miles each time including Baucking to Littlehampton and commuting between Littlehampton and Hayling Island. call it 2000 miles - four tanks of fuel at £50 a tank. Bottles of booze as gifts for people who have helped - £100 This week I have to pay £400 for the pontoon in Hayling island and £60 for a Chichester harbour license. Digging deep and five weeks work - but getting there. Tuesday high tide Bill and I will sail her around to Chichester Harbour to get to the harbour entrance at low tide dusk. Windgurur says 20 mph on the nose... bumma We will then bounce up the harbour with the incoming tide. At some stage we will pick up a mooring and then wait until ten when we can get her onto one of the pontoons at the Hayling Island Yacht Co It will be a good fun.

So if anyone on here knows the harbour entrance well and fancies a day on Harmony we will be leaving Littlehampton at about 11.00 on tuesday and bumping to the pontoon at HYC at about 11 tuesday evening

bring your own food and foulies

£400 for a pontoon berth? Ouch!

I’ll keep my mud mooring with the occasional trip to the hard beach when I need it to dry out thanks.

£400 is over two years mooring fees for me!

That is about the same as I pay for a 27′ dock at our marina, $740 CAD + 13% GST, and this is one of the cheapest marinas in Eastern Canada – and one of the nicest. http://lewisporteyachtclub.com/interface/home.aspx

Looking forward to seeing Harmony in the water.

It is £50 a week…..but I still have a lot of fettling to do so I need the walk-on pontoon and power to finish off the work. Katie L for six months in Scotland on a drying pontoon was £200. prices may vary across the UK.

Yes, that was my reaction too.
Great news on the launch Monday.
But still having a problem believing those costs.
    Incredible.

My mooring cost €500 to get put down (about 420 quid) and will last a minimum of five years.
Free to use the slip and store the dinghy.
No harbour dues, or mooring charges.

The South Coast UK seems to have gone money mad.

sailing is seldom cheap and as an itinerant there is no escaping the high summer prices

having said that if you were passing through an area and they offered you a pontoon berth overnight for £7 you would be well pleased

and they have offered me the yearly rate converted to per month in return for scattering a few links through this website

    http://www.haylingyacht.co.uk/

please feel free to send them an email and tell them what a great looking yard they run and how having been pointed to it via this excellent website you are highly likely to spend some time on their pontoons on the lovely Hayling Island

I must be right in thinking I’m in the cheapest place to keep a boat in the Solent. A mud mooring for £130 a year including harbour dues and If I need to dry out on harder stuff there’s a nice flat sandy beach to pull onto. If I need power tools I just take the generator along with me.
I’d better shut up before it becomes too popular and they start to put prices up!

Its cheap, but nowhere as cheap as some of the fee-free places up North.

Are you keeping the name “Harmony”?

  10. 16 March, 2014 at 12:02 amdylan winter says:

I am keeping the name – getting the paint off the stern would be tough and there will be five adults aboard – so Harmony is a good name and we also have to deal with cape wrath – Harmony around Cape Wrath has a ring to it.

I think KTL Industries needs to have a live web-stream of this event. Maybe with a half-time show featuring Lady Gaga. :)

Every thing in USA is cheaper….EXCEPT BOAT MOORINGS.
A marina berth on the Chesapeake bay in a typical a marina…they are all fancy now
The quiet little ones have all been bought up by the condo developers…..
The run about $2500.00 for a 30 ft slip, non floating as tide range is low to about $4500.00 for 40 ft.
Good luck finding an under 30′ slip!
Electric which you need for AC in summer at the dock runs $ 2-300 for the season…

    Maybe it’s not so bad…..
