Missing Minstrel Mainsail

I appear to have parted company from my Minstrel Mainsail.

It is a tragic story. No doubt age related in some way.

I sent the sails to be repaired, picked them up, fitted the genoa, sorted out the shed  and have now lost the mainsail.  I fear we took the wrong sailbag to the dump as I have a sailbag full of short and rotten bits of rope and no mainsail.

So, if any Minstrel owners have an old one, or if you know a Minstrel owner please ask them  please let me know. No matter what condition it is in – top money for the living dead.  I know my wonderful sailmaker can re-build anything.

I feel your pain. Years ago I burnt an envelop with $ 700 cash in it I owed my Mum repaying a loan. Threw it into the open fire along with other paper scraps. Alas I think it may be age related. Would it feel better if someone had stolen the sail ???

entirely my own stupid fault. I am very pleased I only have a buffoon to blame – it would not be nice to blame a thief…….. and who would ever steal a sail?
I am just a stoopid bloke

Ouch! How expensive would it be to just buy a new one?

Would it cheaper to get a slightly bigger sail secondhand and cut it down? Do you know what size it needs to be?

I am sure that would be possible

the bolt rope runs through the rop spar in a groove – so the bolt rope would need to fit

the bottom is also loose fitted to the boom….

the bit where the gaff meets the mast also takes a bit of a pounding.

I will investigate in all directions on this one

my main hope is that there is a minstrel sailor out there who has a buggered one in his loft

Tragic to say the least and I too feel your pain. I would feel even more pain paying 1500. I recently got a new mainsail from Far East Sails in Hong Kong for my 24 footer. I know the sail for a Minstrel will be more complex but mine cost about US$550 to the door with 2 reefpoints and Cunningham. Very thorough and amazing service. May be worth getting a quote.
    Good luck,
    Steve

This is good to know as I’ll be looking for a set of professionally made sails for Naiad to replace the homemade ones I have at present.Since that will be six sails I can’t really afford British prices even though my boat is only 16ft long (22′ if you include the bowsprit).
