Bed Bound Polytarp Gazza from Australia says “spread the word”

Hi Dylan

I am really sorry to hear about having to sell the boat. Sort of like a Doctor Who episode, I am way back in the series of episodes, so I hadn't caught up with that so it is indeed a shock to hear you've had to sell the boat. It is another proof, should any be required, that there is very little justice in the world.

I only have little boats and I tend to hang onto them, hence the 3 sea kayaks, pirogue and mirror dinghy lurking around awkward corners of the yard. My wife says I have a border line hoarding problem and should seek professional help but what else are awkward corners of the yard for?

I have indeed spread the word of your videos to family and friends, and extort them to chip in a bit too ( I think I got my brother to chip in a bit). I hope that the consciences of the 12,000 kick in soon. Or enough of them to help you get a new nice warm boat.

Attached is a photo of my lovely little mirror who is my favourite at the moment, and we are having lots of nice little adventures together. I bought her for 190 AUD - about 120gbp - and have had a lot of fun fiddling around fixing her up. I've got a sailmaker to put reefing points in the main and jib so I can sail single handed and not get too excited when the breeze kicks up, which it does most days here.

As well a photo, I made a very short video, inspired by your duck punt series, of a short sail in my 12 foot Bolger pirogue. Made me realise afresh how very very good your videos are, and how much skill is required to produce a decent video of a trip on water. Skills which I am clearly lacking. I put in a plug for you in my extremely intermittent and very little read blog as well ...

Hope you got a laugh out of that one ...

As to the "act of altruism" ... we went to the Adventure Film Festival last weekend, and shelled out a fair bit of dosh to watch a bunch of movies some of which were good, some considerably worse than yours, and I think if I am prepared to pay to see those, it only seems fair to pay something to see yours as well. I've been bed bound the last few days and your videos have really helped my through a crap few days - so thankyou.

Thanks for writing and thanks for sharing your grand project.

all the best,

Gary
