Yes, much improved on the formerly low level v/o segments previously pointed out by Te, listening through decent desktop speakers and watching on a TV where I’ve just enjoyed it in full again.

The segment that starts with, “the fornicating rich and famous at Felixstowe” is slightly subdued compared to the on-board footage that follows and the Harwich bit is too. Your v/o is inaudible at around 33:26 for 30 seconds. None of this takes away from the quality of the film though — thanks again Dylan.

    Thanks S,

I have gone back through and removed the barely audible bits where I am talking to myself as much as the camera – the bits with a shot of gnasher.

I have re-listened from youtube to the vo bits… I am worried about over doing those – the studio atmos is so different from the on-board.

I will see if anyone else says they are still too low

If anyone else wants to play then the v/os are at 22 mins – 29 mins and 34 mins

Were you talking to yourself at around 33.33 or commenting on the boats?

I think I said something really profound … such as…

“good place to drop an anchor – ooo look, it is called Gnasher.”

I watched the “Secret Waters” video almost exactly 24 hours ago. Actually, I had read the comments about the vo problems before watching, so was expecting sound levels to be choppy in parts. Sure enough, the voice-over levels were way low where everyone said they would be, sounding almost as if the vo’s were missing an audio channel (right or left) or some such. I could hear what you were saying, but the stark differences in audio between vo and onboard was rather distracting.

But I also saw your comment saying you would post a new video with re-mixed audio “in about 18 hours”, so decided to watch again tonight. (I followed the link you posted in the comment to which I am replying). 100% improvement, D. Nice work! That said, I did again notice one short bit (around 3:40 +/-) in which the vo was quite low and accompanied by a ticking noise, almost like a timing signal. Mic issue? Don’t know. It was here and gone again quickly, so no biggie. (I’ll still nominate you for a Webbie, or whatever they’re called.)

FWIW, I Chromecast the videos to my “big screen” telly, but pipe the audio down an optical cable to an A/V receiver/mixer, push it through some Dolby processing, thence out to 3 reasonably large speakers + sub-woofer. Audio glitches can really grate with this get-up, but when it’s sweet, it’s very sweet. Sweet audio, D. And a great video, too. Hope you’ll post Part II soon.

A tap is on its way.

    thanks Don,

you are watching with better gear than I have. The sound is causing me probs now – making sound that works on so many different systems – from yours to coming out the back of a tablet through speakers the size of grains of rice. In addition both I, and I assume the MOBs, are losing some acuity when it come to sound. I am not sure how to get around this snag. The rendering time is also getting abit mad on these bigger films. Goodness knows how the bikini sailors who put a film a week up from the Bahamas get by. I take my hat off to them just as they take their clothes off for us.

Just responded in email, but want to stress a few points here in your “public space.”

Your videos remain among the very best on the World Wide Web. I can count on 1 hand the number of T&A sailing videos I’ve watched, and have contributed nary a dime to a single one. Besides being vapid, they cater mostly to the porn crowd who, for at least 20 years, have daily absorbed a stunning amount of total Internet bandwidth (somewhere between 50 – 80%). Don’t get me wrong. I’m no prude, just don’t have the time to waste on such drivel.

I still find the audio quality of your vids to be top flight. The first iteration of this particular video had a few small glitches, but they hardly mattered.

My sound system was medium to high quality when I initially bought it 15 – 17 years ago. But now, who knows? You can probably find a similar set-up at great savings on eBay without too much difficulty, and at low cost. (Hey, then you’ll know for sure how great your own videos sound!)

The video rendering issue is a real one, I’d say, especially since it soaks up so much of your time. Check my email for further discussion. Let me know if I can help in any way.

let me take a picture of the inside of my computer for you.

in the meantime it is a Dell Inspiron 3847

it says the chip is an i5-4460 CPU @3.20Ghz

speeding it up without starting afresh with a new machine would be wonderful
