things I miss about the Humber

I am on the boat at Whitby - nine in the morning and it is blowing a goodun and the BBC are predicting rain every hour between now and midnight.

I have been thinking back about my experiences on the Humber. One of the things I loved what when the wind was calm, the sun was low and that amazing Humber tide would come flooding in and cover one of the large sands in the middle of the channel.

The tide returns like a piston.. slamming into the estuary. The tide really does cover those long lowhumps of sand at the speed of a cantering horse.
