Topper mast on the Minstrel

When I went up the Medway I had not worked out a rig that I could drop

motoring without hope is a thankless thing to do

when we went up the Nene I could sail

the Minstrel rig is droppable but heavy - so I looked around the garage and found a Topper rig. All I needed was a mast step

I canibalised the old frames from the duck punt and turned them into a mast step

and jolly good it is too

Bit worried how fast that mast came down – you need a A frame…. :o))

I’ve used a gin pole on my boat (28′ alum. mast). Never on the water. Bit of a process. Have a look: http://www.foleyisland.com/?cat=29. Down this site a bit the fellow explains how to build and use the pole. Simple might be the better option.
