Good God, Dylan.
You’ve got political!!!!
Well done. I think Donald Trump is more like Mussolini than Hitler, but nevertheless he is a real danger to the world.
How’s the outboard?
Justin
Everyone thought Mussolini was comic – and Charlie Chaplin did a great Hitler. These people are dangerous… Narcissistic behavioural disorder. Surround yourself with sycophants and fire anyone who disagrees with you.
Sailing solo is a great occupation for people with that affliction.
I attended a lecture by Lord Robert Winston only last week. He was saying the exact same thing. He was coming from genetics and Humanity. But he was drawing the same comparisons. He even used the same USA USA footage.
This comparison of “style of the man”” had been made quite often during the campaign so should be no surprise anyone. But the converted/brainwashed still will not hear a bad word against him and incredulously claim he is the only one who puts the American people first, really!. That despite his incredibly anti social actions so far. It’s been a rough ride so far and I cannot imagine where it will lead. Fortunately he will not listen to anybody but the likes of Steve Bannon a forgettable Hollywood producer so he does not understand how to actually get anything done that is not a revocable executive order.
Bring on 2018 mid terms…….cheers Warren
Ps I’m going to look at the comments on you tube now……..aargh the trolls , the trolls…….
Dudley Pope on the other hand, a great author wonderful descriptions of being at sea. His Rampage series are up there with CS Forrester and Douglass Reaman/ Alexander Kent.
cheers warren
ps that looks like boats going into Loder cut? or?
Poor choice of paths to take have taken with this appeal. Wispy web you’ve woven to support it. Sorry you’ve drunk the Kool-Aid.
I watched and liked KTL,because it was an escape from the polictical BS thats everywhere. You sailed to places only many of us dream of whilst we’re still knee deep in family stuff.I’m sorry that it’s not worked out and you had to sell your boat.
I have been interested in my British friends’ reactions to Donald Trump. I feel that much of the spirit of “keep an eye on him” is appropriate, but also feel that swimming against the tide of Liberal/Progressive mindsets is tough sledding. As an American living in the UK, I regret the choice we had for our President. Having said that, I shudder to think what life would be like with the Clinton machine pushing more Progressive mandates onto our society. Mr. Trump represents a backlash, which will (one hopes) result in an eventual move back toward more centrist thought. In my humble opinion, this would be a good thing.
Hoping to splash the boat into the Orwell on Sunday, unless my wife has other plans……..
An undeniably prescient description of Donald Trump, a man born on third base who believes (and espouses that belief) that he hit a triple (to use a baseball metaphor). He has the intellect of a child and the empathy of a tapeworm.
I’m not sure about Trump – but if the Americans could live through the Bush administrations, their oil wars to protect the dollar and their business interests, not to mention the resultant relationship with, and state of affairs in, most of the oil producing areas left intact – then they’ll get on just fine with the latest incarnation of self interest and cluelessness. Obviously we’ll carry on appeasing in that fine tradition of history repeating itself….
And on the note of history repeating itself, self interest and appeasement, I must go and buy a new boat…
Sadly humanity is littered with examples like this. It is in human nature to some extent. You are right. We must learn the past to understand the future.
Good to hear some sane and sound thinking from David Claassen.
And, to be honest Dylan your comparison between Trump and Hitler is not at all serious! I tried google’ing Trump vs Hitler. Lots of it. Yes amusing but generally all a bit silly.
No. Try Hilter vs Stalin vs Mao Zedong vs Joseph Stalin vs Chiang Kai-shek. Seriously.
The supreme lefty basher Peter Hitchens’ piece on Trump really does puts the silly Guardianista type in his place: –
Dylan,
Just dropped another tithe in your collection plate. I’ve been away from D. Winter’s Video Church of the Holy Sail for weeks now, baptising my own blessed, wind-driven transport in the still chilly waters of Lake Erie. With that punishing task behind me–completed just hours ahead of the latest mini-monsoon here–I decided to revisit the videos from Season 1 of KTL, mostly because they strengthened my resolve to sally forth regardless of the weather. I mean, just the sight of DW aground in his now world-famous Slug, with beaming grin beneath woolen (?) watch cap while swaddled in 4 – 5 layers of winter clothing, infused in me that “you can do this, too” feeling. But the sound of driving rain and rising wind outside my house then instill in me the feeling of, “you can do this to-morrow. Maybe.” Back to the blog and videos.
As for The Trumpster and his threat to… whatever… fear not my fine English friend! The American form of government–honed to a fine point, as it was a few centuries ago, in reaction to the perturbations of our British overlords–reacted with remarkable alacrity to whatever threat(s) he and his administration posed immediately upon taking office. Since then, I think the most accurate descriptor of his situation at home would be ‘hamstrung.’
As for the comparisons to Hitler, although they may resonate at first, after a deep draught of a good ale or stout (I’m partial to Newcastle Brown and Guinness, respectively), they no longer wash. Hitler was an evil genius, Trump is, at best, a mediocre businessman, a bad TV actor, and a truly pathetic politician. And, I guarantee you, if your family despised you as much as Trump’s White House staff hates him (if the flood of remarkable, and remarkably venal, leaks is any indicator), you’d be alone at sea one helluva lot more than you have been lo these past several years. Indeed, KTL would be on about the fifth lap by now.
So, chin up, D! Better days ahead! Now, where was that video in which you used the votive candles as a cabin heater? I think I’m gonna need some of those on my boat for the next week or two.
Morning Dylan.
I am a little perturbed by this film and the comment and comparisons you make. It is America’s democracy and right to choose whoever they want as President. Yes I think they have made a gigantic mistake which possibly the world may pay for but if I was an American I would not take kindly to a “Foreigner” criticising or telling them what to do. President Obama passed comment on Brexit and many people I knew took offense to that and it was yet another reason they voted leave.
I sincerely hope you are wrong in your comparisons but I greatly fear there is more than a little foundation to them.
Ironically it was Germany’s democracy and right that chose Hitler as Chancellor, and look how that turned out. Hopefully a better outcome with Mr Trump. As ever, we shall see.
Thanks Dylan. So much is wrong here, with Trump the most visible symbol of all of it. As others have said, his followers can’t see the down side and will not want to admit they were wrong to place him in power. Only another election will solve this IF we can get one without propaganda-tampering and all the voting barriers being engineered by both major parties to maintain power at all costs. I fear for our system. May come live with you…..
Spot on, Dylan. Spot on.
Of course Trump is a threat to truth and his politics have led to a divided nation.
But what Britain? Over here in the Netherlands we ask ourselves how a nation that, in the previous century was strong enough not to make a deal with Hitler and by doing so saved our future, could turn into a sort of banana-republic overnight.
What has come into you Brits?
It seems to me that you are just as divided as the Americans and your politicians are messing things up big time!
Don’t get me wrong. I love the Brits and their country, but that’s just why it hurts so much..
You’ve lost your mind. Trump has no power without congress’s support. He is not popular. He is a reaction to the leaders before him. Obama showed. no leadership. Hillary was stealing a fortune ($250 million for her and two billion for her foundation) Bush started a war in Iraq and Afghanistan by lying. Trump said he would get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. So far he has lied. America wants out of Europe and Korea. He said he’d reduce our troops abroad. The USA is not the Romans or Hitler. We like our troops home. Don’t worry about Trump. Worry about Merkel. Cameron and Blair have been pushed around. Bush had Blair’s number and Cameron should have got a better deal from the EU. Merkel seems to run the show.
A far more pertinent comparison methinks?
