On Thursday I got an email from a YBW forumite telling me to phone Ross. I phoned Ross who told me to phone Mike who told me to phone Mr A who has a Centaur he wants rid of.
I called Mr A - she is a 79 B layout with an 18hp engine - she has been ashore for two years, she is dry inside, the sails are in Mr Anderson's garage, she has a squidgy foredeck and a bent pulpit, the keels weep a little but not much.
I will film it and take loads of pictures but this is the strongest prospect so far.
Secondly, I have been messing with wood and outboards in the garage and for a well to work I need an ultra long outboard
The std long just will not do it - this is a great shame as ebay is full of low hour longs but hardly any ultra longs
The Honda long is only 563mm transome
Honda do Ultra longs though are a handsome 703mm
So that is Honda 10, 15 and 20 hp ultra longs with a transom height of 703mm
Tohatsu 9.8 is 84cm long and 87 cms ultra long - amazing length there Tohatsu - if it true
Mariner do not do them
Yamaha has a 9.9hp long which is 625 which can fit
I made up a carboard well to fit the 15hp and it is frighteningly large
but this engine
http://www.honda.co.uk/marine/23-10hp/BF10/variations/
allows me to keep the engine well down to a reasonable size

Can’t delete that post.
Somehow it went before I’d finished.
Didn’t realise there were that many variations.
Don’t like the sound of the squidgy foredeck.
Hi, check out that pulpit. It has probably caused the squidgy foredeck by lifting the deck fixing. Bit of a messy job to fix.
PBO project book shows how to do this by peeling away the top layer and scraping out al the bad filling.
The guys on the Free an boats forum attack this from the inside by drilling many small holes to let the sandwich filling drain and dry then squirting that expanding insulation that builders use into the gap. There are some pix and tales on that forum.
Sounds like you might have a project on your hands with this one!
Good luck
Tony
Re squidgy foredeck, Caravan floors suffer this as delamination and there are products on the market to make a permanent repair, drill and squirt, I believe it is epoxy based. Just google or eBay, under £20. A kit.
Good luck with your viewing today.
From across the pond on Long Island sound in Connecticut.
I had a Pearson 26 with long shaft Mercury that crapped out. It would cavitate on large waves.
Got a extra long shaft Tahatsu. No more cavitation. One thing I did was tip the shaft of the motor back a bit so the transom was forced into the water when running a higher speeds. This forced the transom down into the water. Fantastic.
Alas like you, I got a bigger boat. Many days I wonder why?
Dylan, hope boat looks good,
Long shafts outboards come by transom heights , std 15 in, long 20in , extra long 25in or even 27in

I assume you have checked out the dimension chart here
http://www.tohatsu-uk.net
27″ shaft 9.8 hp available. Or 689mm in silly money….sorry imperial measurements still rule in us ( but useless for complex engineering calculations)

9.9 hp. The Pearson 26 weighs about 5,600 pounds. I could power against 25 knots without a problem. We have short seas in the sound and didn’t cavitate.
Motor ran great. No electric starter, only pull start but lighter than any other one. The boat has a motor well so was easy to pull and steer.
I have heard great things about Hondas but they were $600 more. And they are heavy. The more weight on the transom the more hobby horsing. I do race a bit so that slows the boat down.
The Tohatsu was 9.8. I forgot!!
