Varkoula – insurers called in

A yacht surveyor employed by Andrew's insurer  is going to have look at Varkoula to assess the damage.

I have had a chat with Andy and he has agreed that we should let his insurers take the matter in hand......

that may take some time to work through the process

so.....

KTL Varkoula is now out of the frame

back to the drawing board

all options open

Is that as in ‘permanently’ out of the frame ?

The job is being passed over to the insurance company

so I think she is a gonner

I would like to put an offer in on Catspaw but he says he wants 6K for that one

I have the 4 but not the six

long term it would save me some mileage over the winter

Is that because Catspaw would require less fettling. I think South Ferriby is a much shorter journey for you than Neyland. Neyland is a delightful spot though. Keep looking…….. she’s out there somewhere.

less fettling – and closer to scotland

she also looks like an excellent yacht

How’s about this one, so cheap you may be able to transport it and it says in Hemel, less than 30 minute drive from you:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121750025625?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Looks just like something you would like Dylan, a good fixer up, it says it is listed elsewhere so you would not be have to stick with the ebay timelines, you could go and inspect at your leisure. It has an eberspacher for Jill aswell.

transport from inland to the sea is really expensive if using a truck. It is my guess that it is half completed project – so picking up where another bloke left off… not often a great idea. I will watch it carefully and have bookmarked it to see what happens

can you find a link to the boat elsewhere?

Please don’t be put off when I put one at the back of the list – I will keep tabs on it and the more boats I can track digitally the better

For a few of the boats I’ve looked at the last 9-months, the shipping by truck would have been more expensive than buying the boat. I’ve stopped looking at boats in the NYC Long Island Sound area since shipping a boat through NYC is prohibitive. You need a wide-load permit to cross through NYC and over the Hudson River Bridges…very expensive.

Alternately, it’s a long, hard sail from Long Island Sound through NY Harbor, down to Cape May and back up the Delaware, even though it’s only 50-miles in a straight-line.

It’s expensive enough to pay the yard to move the boat from the hard and put it in the water at their own dock. Especially if it’s no-longer Spring launching-season.

I was looking at a boat in Liverpool – trucking it away from the yard and down to the solent was going to cost £1200
