Walton Backwaters 2

Part 2 of the Walton Backwaters in Summer. I apologise for the delay in finishing this film..... it has been the most wonderful autumn for weather here..... there are days when I have to decide between going sailing and sitting at the desk..... the boat wins every time.

Please feel free to let me know if there are too many mistakes in this one - I can fix them and re-upload.

I now realise that this was an old version of the film - the final one was 38 mins - so I am re-uploading that one. You can either watch this or hold tight. Sorry chaps.

I plan to spend a few days in the Backwaters in January/Feb just to see how different it is.

If you would like to see the winter version of this film and watch me freezing my balls off in the name of art.....

At 31:38 in this version there is a line of ships hulls anchored off the point to the west of the mouth of walton channel. Are those a wave-break for the point of land? Mothball fleet?

This version seems to have fixed all the hiccups in the previous youtube version that was longer.

They are supposed to take the sting out of the waves – they are steel/concrete barges filled with shingle

    no idea if they work.

    and

blimey man… you watched the whole thing again

    thanks for that

I am now uploading the youtube version –

where I mention something about feeding pigs

Really excellent video. Anybody able to spot the (boat) link between this one and the Wooten Creek video of about three years ago?

A real treat to come home from work and have my glass of rum with that nice and very peaceful sail D. What a place, and some of those shots were lovely – I am quite jealous of what you can do with a video camera… I’m also very jealous of how many beautiful boats there are around there, mostly modern mobo fishing boats here… Just faxed you a couple of bucks and will send a couple more when you post the winter version :-)

I think the red, yellow and blue outboard was prettier!

Have you thought of wing mirrors attached to the corners of the transom of the tender?

Another great offering sir. It’s always a pleasure to see another of your segments show up, mind you the other links you’ve been posting are enjoyable as well but they don’t match the original. I noticed the trailer that you attached to the youtube version (not sure if it’s on the version here) and it sounds like you may be looking to rap up this project. Should that be the case you have my sincere appreciation for all you have done and will stick with the site until as long as you keep it open. Will be tapping my token contribution to the errort. :) Best regards Ed B.

    thanks Ed,

the ending is different on this version to the youtube one. Blokes on the website don’t need the advert on the end.

The film had around 400 views on here and brought in around $300. The youtube versions get many more hits but fewer taps. As for wrapping up Ed, it is not over until the fat lady …..

I am still hopeful that I can get the thing going again. I have the ten more films which I will edit and post and then see where I stand. I will take my time over making them and try not to cut corners – then I will see where I stand. They do best if I post them when it is cold in the states. Without taps I can afford to carry on sailing on the river here and when I get to 67 and the pensions cut in then I will be able to sail in scotland for a season or two – as long as I am still fit at 67. On the other side this thing has been going for ten years – so as a free lance project that makes it a pretty long legged affair. I have closed the loop when I took the second centaur up the north sea (film to come) so the challenge of getting around the island has been completed. But I have a lot of scottish islands to explore with the help of a motorsailer and an electric bike for the inland bits. The bike I have… the inside steering is not yet here.

This must be the best video ever made of the Walton Backwaters.
Still hoping that you’ll get back to Scotland, of course. And Wales. Maybe even the Irish east coast..?

shucks Hans… it is a wonderful place to sail for a few days. I am not sure that all that many films have been made about essex mud- which is wonderful stuff.
I am still hoping to get back to scotland before I am 67…. we shall see what transpires

Its great Hans, but Dylan’s polished original films about the Walton Backwaters are just great. If you haven’t already, watch those films, starting about here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPvcVPHHnL0
