I left Amble Marina at about ten and rode the tide up the River Coquet.

You can do about a mile before coming to a small weir. I waited for the tide to rise enough for me to get over the top and up through the village of Warkworth with its spectacular castle
I went as far as the low stone bridge and then turned back to find a place on the opposite shore to Amble to beach the boat to save the cost of a marina night and also to go for a walk on the northern shore of the Coquet and then along yet another wonderful Northumbrian beach
The birds here are spectacular so I spent some time watching them while I made supper.
This evening I sat on the beach beside a fire made of driftwood and seacoal which is scattered all along the strand line.
Glad to see you carrying on, Dylan! Grand!!
You’ll enjoy Alnmouth and the river – if you can time your arrival at the bar – (not that one).
For us neanderthals – explain “sea coal” please.
Just love the written blogs – a joy.
Thanks again for what you bring to us all.
