Our Initial Inspiration

This idea was first used during World War 2 when the British government distributed pamphlets suggesting that terracotta flower pots and candles were an effective way of keeping air raid shelters warm.

Inspired by the "Flower pot heater" that went viral on YouTube we decided to look at ways of creating a safer, more attractive and effective system that would enable people to heat a space at a fraction of the cost of mains electricity. This short video illustrates the resolve of many people in finding effective ways of staying warm, saving money and demonstrates how the basic principle works. Some of the terracotta pot solutions are quite makeshift and we would certainly not recommend them if there are children or pets in the vicinity. Using cheap tea lights might help warm a small room, but they also create a nasty smell. We have also included better thoughtout examples where people have used smokeless paraffin and built safer designs. These are far more effective for warming a larger space.

Taking all this on board we have improved on the concept by using better quality ceramic materials and by designing products that are safer to use, visually pleasing and infinitely more effective.

There was a program on the tv last week that mentioned the “viral hit” that was the flower pot heater. It was about a guy doing odd things to a boat.

In the end he upscaled the plant pot heater to 90 tealights in a coffee table, with coloured glass bottles over the tealights, all fitted under the glass top of the coffee table. Looked amazing and appeared to be a very effective space heater.
